I sleep alot druing important meetings, usually sedated to my surrounding environment and conditions, usually indecisive and usually change my decision quickly and enjoy holidaying and taking breaks during busy periods. Can I apply for the Vice Cancellor position? Pak Lah report abuse disagree 0 agree 18 ... written by KM Wong, July 14, 2008 11:16:10 Dr Azly, Did you make a typographical error on the date. Given the current state of affairs should it not read 3010, stead of 2010? On a more serious side, this will not happen as it will take many years to reverse the destruction of the education system by BN. We can only hope for our next generation and in the meantime this generation will have to make do, improvise, find better solutions.... SIGH! report abuse disagree 2 agree 8 ... written by cwy, July 14, 2008 11:40:10 It is a dreamed university for all Malaysians! Is it on Mount Kinabalu? Well, I hope my grandson ( 1 year old ) can apply for the job if he gets his PhD. and after he really sacrices for years of meaningful services to our country. report abuse disagree 2 agree 6 ... written by Fairminded, July 14, 2008 11:49:34 All the blah blah qualifications needed can be summarized into 3 sentences: 1. He/She is preferably or even must be a Malay 2. Preferably an UMNOPUTERA who follows Hitler's racial supremacy policies. 3. Able to bring down the standards of education to pass unqualified Bumis mainly on the grounds of race and religion which is "Uber Alles". The rest of the requirements are just a joke right to make it acceptable to the world of academics. report abuse disagree 4 agree 14 ... written by megatron, July 14, 2008 11:58:00 All the student enrolled must be either from Afrika, Arab Saudi, Middle East country, China. No Language exam required, only money good here. No need class,as the student will 'work' during the study period. All Malaysian must be able to communicate with the student - Must Learn English!. report abuse disagree 1 agree 5 ... written by Mangan, July 14, 2008 12:02:06 You’re right! But I’m not hoping too much that it will be materialize. Just surf to any local university website and look for the “staff only” section – almost all of them belong to a particular race! I once applied for the post of junior lecturer – only to be informed that I wasn’t eligible! Multi-racial???! How I wish that Malaysia is one day emulates the U.S.! report abuse disagree 2 agree 8 ... written by Navigator, July 14, 2008 12:27:41 We are always having big dreams. The good brains including the smart Malays like Prof Azly find the atmosphere less stifling overseas. Rome is not built in a day and even then it needs good bricks and mortar, not discards. We try to achieve what Oxford, Cambridge and MIT have achieved with third rate lecturers and professors selected because they are bumis. Something is wrong with their thinking. I knew one good Malay lecturer who was really hardworking and smart. He had a lot of trouble with his fellow Malay lecturers who were jealous of his outstanding ability. They looked bad against him. They tried to keep him down and he was really frustrated. This pettiness even extends to their own smart Malays. Prof Azly will have a hard time here because of this petty attitude. They will even use bomoh's magic on him. It is better he stays in USA where his abilities are recognised. report abuse disagree 2 agree 9 ... written by teo siew chin, July 14, 2008 12:52:47 Dear Navigator It is all in the attitude. There are those of low self-esteem who instead of ungrading themselves choose to degrade others. Unfortunately there seem to be more of such ilk. Again, it is the system that has failed the rakyat. All the rakyat are victims. Dr Azly's plan gives us hope, don't it? Time is immaterial. The vision is what counts. Let's all work towards it. report abuse disagree 1 agree 4 ... written by ROBERTNGTG, July 14, 2008 14:24:46 WELL, ITS CALLED WISHFUL THINKING IN THIS COUNTRY. A UTOPIA OF EDUCATIONAL REFORM IN NEVERLAND. HAS ROSMAH RESIGNED? THAT WILL BE THE STARTING POINT. IF U ENTER A COMPUTER CHIPS FACTORY, U HV TO PUT ON MASK, CAP, GLOVES, SOCKS TO ENSURE NOT A SPECK OF DUST, HAIR OR DIRT CONTAMINATES THE PROCESSING. IF OUR COUNTRY'S MOST IMPORTANT INSTITUTION OF LEARNING WHERE OUR FUTURE LEADERS WILL GRADUATE IS TAINTED IN THE SLIGHTEST, IT WILL CONTAMINATE THE WHOLE LOT. ITS AN UPHILL TASK. report abuse disagree 1 agree 4 ... written by FFT, July 14, 2008 14:39:37 written by temenggong, July 14, 2008 | 10:42:31 Sadly enough, there are a good number of Malaysian academics who are currently serving in local academia. I've had the fortune of meeting quite a good number of them over the last decade or so, and they are from all walks of life. Most of them are alumni of the local system from either before Mahathir's time or shortly before he and UMNO single-handedly destroyed the local tertiary education system. These folks would shine, not so much if given the opportunity, but if they were not stifled. report abuse disagree 1 agree 6 ... written by Siapabohong, July 14, 2008 18:05:10 A very good idea. Once the new regime takeover, can plan to start it. I think it can achieve the standard of Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge that most of us look up at them so much. With true education and scholarship as the core and the only objective I think it can achieve the higest standadrd of an exellent university. I wish it will a reality. Location of the university I think the best be at Frasier Hill or Banda Baik. report abuse disagree 1 agree 1 ... written by Hakim Joe, July 14, 2008 18:44:24 Hello, I know (one must be confident) I am OVER qualified for the job but my fifty million (USD) cash in the bank and fifty thousand tonnes of gold in switzerland will not get me thru this lifetime...beggars can't be choosers, right? - 5 Letters of recommendation: That is not a problem. I'll get it from my parents (2), and my sisters (3). 2 plus 3 equals 5, right? (Let me confirm on my calculator 1st...) - Record of classroom teaching experience in diverse settings nationally and preferably, internationally: I once stood out in front of my class in primary school during the rain (diverse settings) teaching my mates which consisted of Malays, Chinese & Indians (internationals). - Comprehensive explanation of philosophy of teaching (8-10 pages): No problem...eh...let me checkout the www 1st lol. Must have something there I can plagiarize (see...I can understand long words, man!) from. - Candidates merely interested in political advancement need not apply: I m not interested in political advancement! I swear!!! I m only interested in the $$$ and power that I can dapat when in such a position. Ha! Ha! Ha! Oooohhhhh, wonder how much I can earn selling exam papers, eh? - Candidates who are office bearers or alumni member of any political party will not be considered: This one no problem lah. I can resign from UMNO, MIC, MCA, PKR, DAP, SAPP, National Library, Myvi Club, Lions, Rotary & Genting VIP member club pronto!!! Now, where do I send my resume to? Can text me??? I can then cut & paste, no need to re-write everything mah!!! report abuse disagree 2 agree 4 ... written by DontPlayGod, July 15, 2008 01:41:43 Sorry, Dr. Azly, I don't share your optimism. With our present goons and Dr. Idris of BTN doing their darnest best to inculcate racism, ketuanan, and discrimination, it will never happen. But its good once in a while to dream. Let's leave it at just that, a dream. At the present rate UMNO is churning out graduates in the mold of the Head of Graduates of M. U., and at the rate BTN is promoting racism, apartheid, and hatred for all non-Malays, the reality on the ground is that Malaysia will be another Zimbabwe in another 15 to 20 years time. Either that, or it will be a full scale Islamic state in the mold of Pakistan, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. This other "dream" will have a much better chance of becoming a reality. And it won't be very far off. report abuse disagree 1 agree 4 ... written by temenggong, July 15, 2008 07:32:13 written by FFT, July 14, 2008 | 14:39:37 I did not have the good fortune to meet many such, but yes I'm sure they exist. It could be because they have been stifled so much that they have already imbibed the culture and atmosphere of malaysian academia. Keeping their heads down and off the radar screen, that is! report abuse disagree 1 agree 2 Write comment This content has been locked. You can no longer post any comment. With these kinds of onerous qualification requirements, current academic staff from malaysian universities need not apply.
Luckily the university's postal address is in Singapore! Not too far from where I live in Middle Rocks!
