"RAMLEOLOGY": towards a new discipline ...

WHAT IS "RAMLEOLOGY"? there is so much simplicity yet complexity of the malay mind, grounded in ethics of malay authenticity in the philosophy of Ramleology -- one that is lost these days with the wave of uncritical islamization, unchecked westernization, and of course globalization and the destruction of the malay ethics and worldview by the various malay political parties founded upon crypto-crony-corporate-capitalism ... Ramleology as a study of reflective sociology may provide an important avenue of such a critique and the going back to such a period of sanity in the malay cognitive development ... would you agree? each and every movie in Ramleology, each and every song is a script in the grand narrative of malay political philosophy that must be re-excavated and the archeology of knowledge of the old and the new of the malay intellectual depth be made a rigorous activity ... the Ramlee Logos hence Ramleology as a field of studies should be an interesting venture ... azly rahman

I'm convinced that P.Ramlee was a master soul who used music and the cinematic arts to show his people how to conduct themselves. I'm not familiar with the details of his life, but I have the impression that when he became a big star and moved to Malaya, there were those who tried to co-opt his enormous talents for their own political agenda - and Ramless, being a true artist, refused to play their game. So he was given the official cold shoulder and left to stew in his own debts. After his untimely death. they pedestalized him - as is invariably the case with people who prefer their heroes dead and no longer able to talk back.

I do agree, there was much to be learn from his movies, dialogues, scripts, lyrics etc. Most importantly, to also learn to laugh at ourselves and not be to overly sensitive. By standards imposed today, I reckon many of his movies if made today, would be heavily censored if not banned.

Just thought I would share a book on old Malay movies entitled; 120 Malay Movies by Amir Muhammad which was published in 2010 for those who needs an intro to P Ramlee and other Malay movies.
