Malay dignity lies in wisdom and not in war-mongering nor in idiotic pride. A good resolution in any congress should reflect this, not renew hatred and instill unfounded or dumbfounded fear among younger Malays. Dr. Azly Rahman dr.azly.rahman@gmail.com
Recently, Johoreans formulated a resolution on ketuanan Melayu. I do not know what this means at a time when our political-psychological landscape has changed. Kongres Permuafakatan Melayu bertemakan 'Kedaulatan Melayu Paksi Kewujudan Bangsa' selama tiga hari di Johor Bahru yang berakhir semalam, menyaksikan usaha bersungguh-sungguh lebih 2,000 peserta mewakili 200 pertubuhan bukan kerajaan Melayu dari seluruh negara mahu bangsa Melayu terus unggul…. Mereka mahu kuasa, kedaulatan dan ketuanan Melayu terus dipelihara, bukan membiarkannya diancam oleh pihak lain. Comments (32) ... written by technoboy, May 21, 2008 09:55:38 What ketuanan, only will continue to believe and harp on this falsehood created by UMNO morons for their own political ends? Utter waste of time and efforts, brings no economical benefits to the nation, only serve to divide and stir unnecessary racial emotions and hatred amongst Malaysian. This is the kind of stupidity we see in UMNO. report abuse disagree 2 agree 59 ... written by harryo, May 21, 2008 10:15:41 I wonder whether Malays are progressing in their thoughts and actions or reversing the progress already made! report abuse disagree 2 agree 18 ... written by Su Dhanoa, May 21, 2008 10:20:42 "Malay dignity lies in wisdom and not in war-mongering nor in idiotic pride. I think there are a handful old senile goons who just refuse to acknowledge the fact that the Malaysian are at last awakening from their long, long slumber sleep. These are the "ronson lighters" that should actually be put in the cells and the keys thrown away. These goons have done no good to Malaysia, but only provoke the society to keep themselves afloat. report abuse disagree 1 agree 28 ... written by Mr Smith, May 21, 2008 10:21:12 March 8 has brought untold miseries to UMNO and its leaders. Someone said UMNO is now comatose. Some think it is in a state of depression and needs psychiatric care . Or could it be suffering from schizophrenia. Or is it in an amok state of mind? Or is it plain mad and run berserk? One thing I am sure. The party is confused and definitely not sane. It just cannot think straight. Or is it terminal cancer? report abuse disagree 3 agree 11 ... written by myvoice, May 21, 2008 10:31:08 Kedaulatan/Ketuanan/Kewibawaan Melayu, whateverlah you like, but make no sense. At a time when the races are making tremendous efforts in cementing the gaps between them these people take 10 steps backward for the malay race. On one side you these modern liberal minded malays. They are proud of the malay race and the show this by excelling themselves and proving to the world that their UMNO junkheads, their so called 'guardians' have all along been making them look small. These group speaks well, carry themsleves around respectfully. On the other side, you have those junk heads, who wield krises to show their archaic mentality, and Mahathir, here telling the world recently that the malays are so incompetent that they will allow themselves to be squeezed to the jungle edge by the singaporeans. And not forgetting those paranoid things that keep barking 'ketuanan melayu'. Don't they know from the few books they ever read that civilised, matured and modern soceities do not behave like they do? Have you ever heard of the Indian in Indian showing Indian Supremacy in the streets or the chinese or the westerners showing the this kind of paranoid character? I wish they is a dungeon somewhere they can be locked in and the keys thrown away. report abuse disagree 2 agree 19 ... written by talkingback79, May 21, 2008 12:04:49 The sad thing is perhaps, knowing at the back of our heads that they are nothing but tools of UMNO to incite racial hatred. Not caring a bit whether what they bark will cause blood to spill. Irresponsible 'things'. But its good to see that the right thinking malays are growing in strength by the day. I laways feel very comfortable having a glass of teh with these malays. They talk sense, they show you they know more about what goes on in the world than those UMNO class of people. And in the course of their misguided goals, the whole rakyat of the country is sucked into the abyss. That's not how it should be. The plain common and friendly Malays and Muslims are sitting it out and can do nothing much. The non-Malays and non-Muslims are in a worser situation and are powerless to keep afloat the Titanic. It cannot be spun from thin air. Nor can it be resolved from mass rallies. Ketuanan must come from the knowledge that one has. It cannot be achieved from lowering entry exams or quotas into universities. On the contrary, you lose respect when doing this. Ketuanan must come from hardwork, and not from contracts awarded from gormen agencies only to be sub-contracted out to Ali Baba and his 40 thieves. Respect is lost here. Ketuanan must come from real commercial risks and not from bail-out projects. Again you lose respect from this. Try swim in the deep blue open sea of economics and not hide under the tempurung in the kampung, maybe you will find your true ketuanan. report abuse disagree 0 agree 11 ... written by Limang, May 21, 2008 16:01:50 It may take generations for Malays to undo the harm and damage committed by UMNO and *****thir. As the saying goes, for evil to proliforate is for a few good men to do nothing. No one can dismantle what you Malays have built - a runaway monster called instituionalized UMNO! Even if others sincerely tries to help, this monster will scream :"Don't you dare question what I do, or I'll kill you." There will be bloodshed - so no one will dare to help the Malays. It is the Malays themselves who must wake up soon and see the destruction the Monster has caused. It is they themselves who must get rid of the monster and dismantle what they have built. The monster is afterall, raise up as their master, lord and saviour but has grown too fat with power, corruption, shamelessness, greed, incompetence, intolerant, and blood-thirsty. Don't they realize that the problem with the Malays now is within their own selves? Nobody, especially the non-Malays are interested in threatening them or undermining their efforts in whatever they do!!! How can the non-Malays do anything when the armed forces, police, and CIA are practically 100% Malay? And the majority people in parliament, the PM, deputy PM and most of the cabinet ministers are Malays. Even the Sultans are all Malays. So where is this threat coming from? Don't these guys have anything else better to do? report abuse disagree 1 agree 18 ... written by Tom n Jerry, May 22, 2008 16:11:06 Human rights&equal rights!Thats the basic foundation for a developed nation!Syabas to malaysia.we are moving in the right direction! report abuse disagree 0 agree 4 ... written by hakuna, May 24, 2008 21:03:20 Well presented article. Are the Johore Malays still leaving in a cocoon? These are the people who have travelled widely but have shut their eyes to the outside world. One really wonders who these 2000 are - can't they learn to carry on with their life and earn the respect if there is anything due. Why is this mentality of being handicapped so paramount? Malays are not handicapped and that is a fact, majority of them toil as hard as the next Malaysian - so now the handicapped ones are from UMNO only and instead of feeling proud that the rest of the Malays are doing well, they want them to feel as a handicap too, instilling in the common man's brain that he is dumb and thus require assistance from the government. report abuse disagree 0 agree 2 ... written by madtrix, May 24, 2008 21:42:50 The threat to the Malays is not from within Malaysia. It's from the new economic ascendency of other emerging economies around the world, particularly within the Asia Pacific region. Beyond the confines of 'Tanah Melayu', there is no ketuanan anything to protect them. I believe many progressive Malays understand this. The Chinese have no special privileges but see how the absence of protection have taught them to look after themselves. When will the Malays understand this and learn? When will they ever learn to lose their inferiority complex? Don't they see their continued reliance on this welfare state mentality have weakened them? Malaysia started well. We had a head start in the region. But successive failure of governance since have chipped away the foundation and caused untold damage to the national fabric and massive loss of economic momentum. If not for oil, the country might have gone bankrupt years ago. The only hope now is for the nation to unite and harness the energy of all Malaysians and that requires the Malays to cast away this 'ketuanan' paranoia created by some foolish and childish politicians. The Malays alone will not thrive in the 21st Century without their non-Malay fellow citizens. For the sake of Malaysia, they better wake up quick and channel their formidable charm to promote bangsa malaysia instead ... before the whole nation turns into a basket case. report abuse disagree 0 agree 10 ... written by DontPlayGod, May 26, 2008 22:43:25 When the oil wealth is no more, I would urge my children to leave. Because, by then, with the present mentality of the master race, Malaysia will sink further into a Zimbabwe or Burmese type of country. Nobody will want to invest in Malaysia, nor want to stay or visit Malaysia anymore. At that time, if the UMNO Malays are still in slumberland, they can only depend on God for help, as they have not learned walk without their crutch. Malaysia a developed a nation by 2020? You can carry on dreaming. report abuse disagree 0 agree 4 ... written by hwy, June 03, 2008 14:23:36 Kedaulatan Melayu??? What is there to be proud of? The following, I suppose. Malays are notorious for being ahead in the following areas: 1. Blindly following the leader 2. Incest 3. The largest group of drug addicts. 4. The ability to produce 'mat rempits' 5. Wearing blinkers and not admitting to faults 6. Excessive pride and arrogance when it comes to racial issues 7. ETC. Come on you Malays out there (I'm Malay too), wake up to the realities of life. Malay is your mother tongue. Fine. But is that any reason to reject the use of another language? How far can BM take you? Only as far as the borders of out nation and maybe Indonesia and Brunei. Beyond that you will be helpless. Regardless of what the arrogant Malays say, you still need English Language. Try teaching students who cannot master the language to use the computer and surf the Internet, practically impossible. But there's an upside to it too, this not mastering English Language. The people can be kept in the dark about the real happenings in the world. They will only be exposed to MSM and THAT is to the advantage of UMNO. This is one reason why it is not easy to infiltrate th Johoreans. A vast majority of them are deadset against using what they call "Bahasa Penjajah". This is especially true of the men. They don't see that a language is just a tool of communication. This is the sort of mentality propagated among the kampong folk and people who refuse to learn another language for fear of LOSING their identity. Their identity must be very fragile and skimpy indeed if learning and using another language can pose a threat. That is why I scoff at the phrase "BUDI BAHASA BUDAYA KITA". It is just a campaign catch phrase but not the reality. In my experience, the westerners have more "BUDI BAHASA" compared to the Malays with their ego and male chauvanistic attitudes. The Malays are more prone to beat round the bush and not address the real issue at hand for fear of hurting someone's feelings. If this is what all "BUDI BAHASA" is about, then give me a straight talking person anytime. Back to the issue at hand, UMNOputras and putris in Johor are practically dyed-in-the-wool supporters who have been brainwashed by the MSM (read: Malay mass media) due to their lack of ability to use the English Language and get information from other sources. They have been fed BN crap for too long that it would not be easy to cleans their system. report abuse disagree 0 agree 5 ... written by Fairminded, June 18, 2008 13:30:08 Malaysia claimed to be a democracy and in a democratic nation, the majority always rule. Since the Malays are always numerically more, by inference they rule the country. One do not need to shout "Ketuanan Melayu" and hide their inadequacy behind this false fascade. The caucasians in USA, Australia and Canada will always rule these countries because the whites are in the majority and in a democracy the majority rules. As such they are confident to give equal opportunity to every citizen. They do not need special rights to protect them. Moreover, the Johore Malays mixed up "Race" and "Nationality". One can be of Chinese racially but nationality wise he/she can be as Malaysian as anyone else. Conversely a racially Malay might be not nationalistic enough to the extent of selling out the country - like UMNOPUTERAS did. I was really upset when UMNOPUTERAS wanted to destroy Merdeka stadium where our nation's independence was declared. So there you are, being Malay does not mean you are anymore patriotic. The Johore Malays should wake up and smell the coffee. Malaysia's politics and nation building is moving up a step. report abuse disagree 0 agree 0 ... written by talkstraightener, June 24, 2008 01:27:40 Yo Fairminded; just ponder on this. In the states you need to pass certain criteria before you can be a naturalized citizen. For example, you need to be able to speak English. The right to use your mother tongue is up to you but you need to be able to bloody converse in English. I don't see that happening in Malaysia dude, the Malays ain't racists but certain quarters are. Call themselves Malaysians but can't even speak Malay after 3 generations! Have their own school, speak their own language 98% of the time. Firms that belong to them are known to be rascists in the way the employ people. Just nuke Malaysia and burn everyone so that there will be a one big melting pot. Before you call other people rascists ; take a good look at yourself. Malays are damn too nice and weak. Having a countryman that can even speak the language is a disgrace. Go and see if the Americans, English, Aussies and Kiwis can tolerate that kind of crap. UMNO bashing is flavor of the month coz once again the Malays are too nice. And some Malays who are "Phd" holders just too eager to appear smart with others. Out of 100 of businesses in the streets; 99% belongs to the non Malays. The supply chain is controlled by them and there is literally hundred of unethical ways being practised to ensure the Malays can't compete. I wonder if the people who often call themselves taxpayer actually do pay tax in the correct amount? It is the flavor of the month to thrash the public servants becoz they are "public". What about the "private" companies...I can quote hundreds of unethical behavior going on. Some of us just don't fit in the country. You are like a square peg in a round hole. My advise, stop being a parasite; do something about your unhappiness, find a place where it is greener...the Kiwis probably love you. report abuse disagree 2 agree 1 ... written by talkstraightener, June 25, 2008 03:48:03 hwy, if you think conversing in english is equivalent to being "smart"; you are so high on something. look at the japs and koreans; they don't have to sell their souls to appear "smart". and by the way, the street sweeper in the UK , NZ, OZ, can speak better than you...so.. you can see how dumb you are boy! report abuse disagree 0 agree 0 Write comment This content has been locked. sometimes i see the johorean malays act as if johor is the only state that 'cares' for amno
these malays refuse to regard those non-malays living side by side with them, and often look upon the non-malays as really second class citizens
and now they are trying to 'upgrade' the malayness into 'kedaulatan' and not 'ketuanan' any more...i say PORAHH!
if they really think the malays 'deserve' the 'kedaulatan' recognition, then step outside and leave amno for good
they really believe that amno is going to give back the respect for the malays, but they fail to see that it's the amno which has been the cause for the downfall of the integrity of the malays, along side with Islam
