at a time when the country and the world is in a sombre mood, why are we seeing a circus of this magnitude, especially semiotically linking it this "tahyul-ism par excellence" with the culture of the Malays and the religion of Islam?
- haven't we been seeing enough of circus going on surrounding the search for the missing aircraft or the search for the hidden aircraft?
why aren't these shamans whisked away and be told that we don't need such a cheap show of the use of the phrase "Allahu Akbar" (God is Great) by capitalizing on "shaminism-tahyulism" of such magnitude.
- are we promoting a Visit Malaysia as a Hub for Global Tahyul-ism or Tolol-ism now?
understandably Malays and even people of other religious inclination use magicians to seek help or spiritual consolation, based on what they belief as another paradigm that will offer an explanatory power of phenomena unexplainable, but to allow one group to conduct such a performance in a public space secular in nature and one symbolic as a welcoming space for world travel is way too much for Malaysian to accept as a representation of this nation - -especially when we are in the most difficult time in history with regard to media representation of us as a people with sense and sensibility.
- enough is enough with bomohs and shamans, especially those wearing "kot cendoi" (bargain suits and tie) and wearing songkok and having a website and calling his group Raja Bomoh VIP. What in the world is this group selling? Understandably Malay politicians use the services of these kinds of bomohs extensively some with distastrous results such as in the case of Perlis- famous Mona Fendy who was also a two-minute-famous singer and drives expensive continental automobile, whose tahyulistic powers somehow failed her leading to the incapacitation of the head of a Malay-Muslim politician, further leading her and his co-bomoh to cut him into pieces, bury him in a backyard of a house and pour concrete on that area. It took another religious bomoh of good standing to exorcise the demons in Mona Fandey while she was in jail.
so-- what else do we need in this never ending circus displaying tahyul-ism to the world. Enough is enough ... let us focus on merely and quietly console ourselves in our own religious or non-religious way either via mantra, puja, doa, prayers or creative visualization and neuro-linguistic programming and let science take over in the search for something as tangible as an airplane. This is a world of science essentially and Kuala Lumpur International Airport where the diaplay of global tahyul-ism is going on is right there in the hub we called "Multimedia Super Corridor" and not in the "City of Mambang Darat, Mambang Laut, Mambang Udara...
