SUPERNOVA

SUPERNOVA
(a birthday poem for an old friend, a musician)

Time must have compressed and expand
and compress and blown out of proportion
as if witnessing the birth of a star that refuses to die
sucked into the black hole of the Universe that do not care at times
I saw these ...
in Roslan Aziz a star born, reborn, and giving birth to others
from your days of SWALK and Melody Fair
and Peyton Place...
and DJ Dave
and Albert Hammond's "For the Peace of all Mankind"
and of Spicks and Specks
and the disco dancing craze
and of Chicago's "Happy Man"
and yes, Rick Derringer and Purple's Stormbringer
and Genesis's "Second's Out" and "Yes's Going for the One,"
and those encores ten times over you sang
when you were fifteen
of the songs from the dorm
of Chinese movies
and midnight/nocturnal excursion at Kuantan's TC
in between those Kung Fu and Bruce Lee movies
and Groovy County
and Mr. Natural as natural as the world of music decrees
and living out those heroes in Godfather movies
of Paul Parimbum Ponnadurai
of your admiration for the drums
and Lewis Pragasam
in-between these and many many things
that made you what you are
that made you go beyond these and
like any shining star
you evolved
to become a supernova
a gifted child
a gifted mind
a midas touch
of a generous heart

HAPPY BIRTHDAY .. brother! Roslan Aziz
