O' Frozen River

O' Frozen River

(lines compos'd on an evening of a vision of a frozen river)
by azly rahman

frozen river yonder
lifeless you are
yet beautiful
in time and space exquisitely laced you are
i could just walk gracefully right across thee
in my flowing robe
long hair i will wear
small majestic curls
light brown with a tinge of black
shoulder length
with that eternal smile
barefoot i shall be
walk humbly i will
into the woods
where my congregation awaits
for yet another sermon
of love
of compassion
of empathy
in a world plagued with rivers of blood flowing
unseen
o' frozen river
memories you keep
of that last strand of sacredness remaining
i could see deep within thee
stories of love and hope you weave
of a world locked in an endless battle of sorrow
the rich pouring their greed
onto the poor
in countless millions the souls numbered
until the become many mountains of sinai
to be burned down
one by one
into ashes
whilst the rich laughs
and the Universe care not
o' frozen river
i shall now walk gracefully into the woods
bringing nothing
except the memory of you and i
of love
as supreme as the winter that freezes
every single soul
awaiting awakening
-- so that rivers
will flow again
washing away the blood
of those bludgeoned by the greedy
and awaken even
the Universe
that must care
when my sermon in the woods
amongst the frozen trees
is concluded
