ON PASSING THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE in MALAYSIA

ON PASSING THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ...

really --- it is not a difficult decision to make
just make it more than a pass even
is it as difficult a decision as the US bombing of Syria?

too much drama in language teaching in Malaysia
is the country going to go bankrupt if we ask students to pass the language?

too many games, too many blind nationalists...

of which many of these hypocrites have children proficient in the English Language and probably all studying abroad.

isn't this debate nauseating -- after 50 years of independence?
get serious, be honest -- what actually do you lawmakers want?
to further enslave the malays especially?

you obviously have not seen what the world outside is about -- yet you talk about being world-class! -- ar

Well we can only imagine how low the passing marks is going to be in due time.

In the 80s when I sat for my SPM, the SPM English was not recognise outside M'sia and students seeking external recognition sat for the English 1119. 40 years later we're giving some emphasis to the passing of an unrecognised English exam.

Our PM and DPM keep saying controversial things. One moment, they claimed we have the best edhavenion system in the world, the next moment they say we need to improve the education standard. But now we don't even have the confidence to make it compulsory for a pass in English.
It is in fact impossible to make a pass in English compulsory because our standard of English has deteriorated to such an atrocious level.

When there is no compulsion to do, there will be no impulse to excel. When there is no carrot to look forward to,
Even the donkey will not the work do.

It is the sheer stupidity and selfishness of the Ministry of Education and the equally asinine group of ruling coalition that will throw the rakyats' future into the drain, if the rakyats who are still sleeping do not wake up. Having a mastery of the English language has nothing to do with disrespecting the Bahasa Malaysia. Some myopic professor actually went on TV to say that people who want English stream education are 'takbur'. Unfiltered words flowing out of an unrefined mind. The BM is our national language. It is the rakyats' duty to master it, end of story. English is for surviving on the world platform, therefore we should master it. In fact we should master whatever language that is most used in the world, for our own enhancement. Why compare with countries that do not learn English? In this era of global business transactions, what is wrong with learning the English well. Put the ego aside and get on with life.
