From perkasa to pekasam -- updated with bonus Bob Dylan song and Mongolian music, a truth about Hang Tuah the Malay hero.

I am following with interest the development of the collaboration between non-governmental organisations and political parties. I try to analyse the role of local NGOs and international NGOs viz-a-viz the parties they augment or even sabotage.
perkasa first agm 270310 bannerIn a free country such as Malaysia, we will see more of the interplay between hegemonic and counter-hegemonic forces as they deal with angelic or demonic political groups.

It is not easy to read this as we members of the public are always presented with perceptions in this endless game of invented realities. I wish Malaysians are by now well-equipped with the skills of critical media analysis and in political economics to engage in intelligent discussions on the politics of the day.

How would one read the media hype over Perkasa? How might one read Dr. Mahathir Mohamad's patronage of this interesting group? How about the pledge by the retired and aged Umno leader to uphold the struggle on the rights of the Malays? How do these go with the neverending story of the present regime to hold on to power as the 13th general elections greet us?

The image of Perkasa and its members brandishing the keris must have terrified Malaysians again - as if there is no repentance, remorse, and shame in the way the Malays conduct their war on perception. I feel that these constructed set of Malays are merely an embodiment of a crude image of an insignificant and diminutive group, disengaged from the larger group of Malays that are now global, cosmopolitan, and multicultural in its outlook.

perkasa first agm 270310 keris 02The image of Perkasa is akin to a propped up image of Hang Tuah made of marshmallow.

At a time when 1Malaysia seems to be desperately promising the gradual phasing out of all race-based political parties, a return to multicultural Malaysian Malaysia, and a close monitoring of hate-groups and fascist-leaning NGOs, Perkasa seems to be an organisation which need not have to be born.

At a time when the people of Malaysia are more aware of the decades of race-based divisive politics that has made the concept of tolerance and unity daunting, Perkasa might be perceived as a fermentation of the concept of ketuanan Melayu. In other words, it is a pekasam, as the Malays themselves would call it - a ferment that is offensive in smell to those who loves good things in life, and a great and addictive delicacy for those who love fermented food.

Perkasa a tool

In an age wherein NGOs are fashionable creations to carry out whatever that political parties cannot achieve and NGOs can help do with good funding, Perkasa is a perkakas or an instrument/tool of parties that are pushing the ketuanan Melayu agenda desperately - to what conclusion we are yet to see. As many NGOS can be created - 10s. 100s, 1000s, etc. - the more the louder - although not necessarily making the argument for racial superiority more intelligent.

In an age wherein Malays are now questioning everything - themselves, truth, religion, government, media, and even their "Malayness" - NGOs like Perkasa are an easy target for the philosophical reflection of Malayness.

perkasa first agm 270310 bigger kerisThese days Malays are asking: who is Perkasa and will it be an embarrassment to the image of the progressive and thinking Malays? How much will it cost to create a Perkasa ? would be another question, Malays in general might ask.

As a keen observer of Malaysian culture, I am interested in seeing the process of fermentation and fragmentation of the Malaysian mind as a consequence of the interplay between technology, culture, and politics.

The level of consciousness of Malaysians in the early 1970s is different than now, 40 years later. It is not easy to incite violence based on truncated race-based arguments on who owns this or that and how many percent of the economic pie should that be. Today, it is the classes of this or that race that determine the nature and structure of poverty and wealth.

It is the mainstream media controlled by the ruling parties that are still primitive in analysing the causes of the wealth of Malaysians. It is the controlling interests behind the production of perception that are still creating conditions of poor visibility in telling Malaysians what actually is the nature of stratified society they are in.

"The centre cannot hold/things fall apart," as the poet William Butler Yeats once wrote - verses that can aptly describe what is happening in Malaysian politics as we witness the age of uncertainty dawning upon us. But maybe in the case of Perkasa we are seeing it fermenting after all, into a pekasam wherein the image of Hang Tuah, the immoral historical-obedient fool in the court of Malacca, is slowly becoming uglier as in the portrait of Dorian Gray, slowly melting as in a propped up marshmallowed-mannequin in all its uselessness of the semiotics of ketuanan Melayu - an assertion of idiotic pride and an anti-thesis to Umno's own 1Malaysia, a slogan that is desperately in need of blind followers.

May this nation be spared of hate groups.

I dont think that perkasa is a hate group. Nothing wrong with a group of people getting together to pursue a common agenda for the sake of survival. A united people is harder to take advantage of. I dont see you condemning hindraf with the same venom as you do perkasa when hindraf itself fights for hindu rights. Working class malays are exploited every day. Our situation is not the same as the self delusioned "progressive" or "professional' malays. If these poser malays think yhey are ashamed to be grouped together with the rest of us , then find a new definition for your existence, american malays, elite malay, or what ever. Opps i forgot, malay is an illusion. Is perkasa an illusion too doc? Those thousands of malay bonded together isnt real doc, its magic. That is not a kris, its excalibur. Merlin is the guest speaker. I will support perkasa regardless of what these starbucks malay think. You dont wanna roll with us,we'lll roll right over ya.

Check you facts first,Dr Azly before coming up with such a pseudo intellectual half baked analysis. I am a non partisan in malaysian political debates but your writing left much to be desired. Perkasa is not a hate group. The sole purpose is to protect the rights of the Malays and uphold Islamic interests. Your analysis is an outcome of prejudice, devoid of convincing facts and sweeping statements. Its unbecoming of you as a so called scholar to resort to baseless claims and judgements. Please refer to the survey conducted by independent pollster Merdeka Centre which discovered that 70 per cent of the Malays agreed with Perkasa's demands.

You cant fool everyone with your fancy 'style over substance' bombastic language laden writings. Forrest of words, desert of ideas - aptly describes your writings.

ajoyly said...

Dr. Azly is doing the right thing. Though, he is far away, he is still concerned with what is happening to Malays and Malaysians.

He loves Malaysia and want her to be strong economically and a respected country among the nations of the world.

Perkasa, it seems doesn't care one bit about having a united Malaysia made of various races living peacefully. Working together to improve the economic position of the people and the country.

What has Perkasa done to teach the Malays to stand on their own feet? To motivate them on how to fish rather than depend on handouts.

The wealth of the country, oil, oil palm etc. will one day be finished because of depletion or because of new technologies and discoveries. Malays will suffer because there will be no monies to be given out.

Perkasa should have a programme to encourage Malays to be financially resilient through teaching them in seminars, forums, dialogue, articles and books.

Otherwise, Perkasa is like a father who does not want his children to grow up. He wants them to depend on him for all their necessities.

Perkasa is underestimating the Malays and insulting their intelligence by assuming that Malays are not smart people and need to be defended and protected.

If this is so, it is Perkasa who is the villain who do not want the Malays to be independent. Perkasa wants them to be enslaved by the taboo of affirmative action - forever crippled and dependent on the government for all their needs.

The fault would be Ibrahim Ali's and Perkasa if the Malays are caught in a time frame that never
move. Forever living in the past - Bangsa Dan Adat Lebih Penting Dari Negara Malaysia.

And the saddest thing is that Tun Datuk Mahathir is involved with Perkasa. Being an exPrime Minister and Elder Statesman, he should not. Because, when he was Prime Minister of Malaysia, he was the Prime Minister of all Malaysians irrespective of race. How is it, he is no more the former Prime Minister of all Malaysians but now of only one race.

Malaysians expected Tun to play an important role in bringing 1Malaysia/Bangsa Malaysia/Vision 2020 into reality. He should have therefore deter the formation of such an organisation as Perkasa in the first place.

And instead be in the vanguard in the setting up of Gerakan Untuk Menjayakan 1Malaysia/Bangsa Malaysia/Visi 2020 Yang Tidak Mengira, Kaum,Keturunan Atau Agama ( Movement To Achieve 1Malaysia/One Malaysian Race/Vision 2020 Irrespective Of Race Or Religion ).

Tun Datuk Mahathir, a man with a stature and credentials bigger than life should be the chief promoter of the above movement. And people from all walks of life will only be too happy to join such a group whose objective is to unite all Malaysians.

And in this regard, Datuk Najib being the Prime Minister of Malaysia and UMNO's head must stop Perkasa at all costs by taking strong measures to neutralise it. Otherwise the objectives of 1Malaysia/Bangsa Malaysia/Vision 2020 will not be achieved. It will only remain a slogan.

There maybe factions in UMNO against the concept of 1Malaysia/Bangsa Malaysia/Vision 2020, Datuk Najib must dealt with them too, sternly and come up on top. A purge might also be necessary. If, this is not done, it will weaken his Prime Ministership. His policies will always be under attack and he will always be under pressure. And which is bad for a person sitting in that position - making him a lame duck.

matrix said...

The problem with Azly is that he questions the existence of the Malays to the core, let alone concern about them.

Calm down, all, Take five-- listen to Bob Dylan. Bring back the sixties.

Perkasa is a solidarity movement of the Malays. So whats wrong with that. Why are some quarters feel threatened by its mere existence. The Chinese an Indians have theirs and why no fuss.Accept the fact Malaysia will always be a racial based and we should assimilate by first getting rid of that vernacular schools.

Tamerlane said...

Purge the venacular schools first, purge the parasites, the gamblers, the bribers, pimps, gangsters, usury, rumah uruts, the monkeys who cant even speak the language, etc. Fix your own community frst. Perkasa isnt just about crutches or whatever. I dont get a cent from perkasa. Your condescending tone proclaims as if the entire malay entity is on welfare. I'm sure many self reliant malay professionals and successful businesmen stil support perkasa. Perkasa isnt a goverment agency so why are you jumping like a monkey? Malays are tired of many issues affecting them, not just affirmative action. Why sould we bend over and let people partner Allah with other beings? This is one of the issues that affects us, not just dollars and cents like some communities in this country. Mahathir is free to choose what organization he wants to join. He is larger than life. Even after retirement and without power many malays still look up to this geat man. I dont see anyone standing up to the world powers today the way Mahathir did during his premiership. You expect Dr Azly to criticize the zionist america? He'll end up in wantanamo bay watching matrix reruns. In 500 years, Malays will still remember Mahathir, will they remember you?

wish Malaysians are by now well-equipped with the skills of critical media analysis and in political economics to engage in intelligent discussions on the politics of the day. Dr Azly Rahman

What Dr Azly Rahman should write to say is: ” I wish the MALAY HEARTLAND is now well equipped……”

The last thing those pariah UMNO Malays want is for Malaysians, especially the Malay heartland, to be ” well-equipped with the skills of critical media analysis and in political economics to engage in intelligent discussions on the politics of the day”.

For a true non racial two-party system to materialise would require that kind of skill by Malaysians, especially by our rural Malay heartland, which Dr Azly Rahman is talking about.

Frank - April 6, 2010 at 10:45 am
#

An excellent, balanced, knowledgeable & down to earth insight from Dr Azly on the hastily constructed ( generally faked ) shadow dancing Perkasa. A much better and easier read as against some of your other way-off bombastic mis-thesis (think Terrence Netto) & the extremely overbearing but utterly out-of-touch Keynesian-logics induced posts from the Sak47.

backStreetGluttons - April 6, 2010 at 10:53 am
#

Dr Azly Rahman’s article is a good take on the notorious PERKASA and the indictment of the continuation of the despised racist politics of UMNO to recapture the votes of the Malay heartland.

Perkasa was encouraged by the pariah UMNO Malays to bring race ( ie I AM MALAY FIRST AND MALAYSIAN SECOND) into the fore front of Malaysian politics again after the March 2008 election when PR was using a non-racial approach to gain the upper hand.

UMNO saw that PR’s tactic of non-racial based politics suited more for the urban and educated voters but the rural Malay heartland was only lukewarm, Thus UMNO saw a window of opportunity with the Malay heartland to kickstart again its race-based politics, except this time, to outsource to ultra Malay NGOs, funded, supported and encouraged by the Kementerian Belia of this UMNO-led Govt.

PERKASA was created to pull the emotional strings on race of the rural Malay heartland and to bring back the support of the BTN-brainwashed educated Malay in the cities and towns.

The questions: What is PAKATAN RAKYAT especially Anwar Ibrahim and his team, doing to counter this new front of UMNO trying to re-engage the population on race politics and to make race as the subject matter of the national conversation right up to the next GE113? Looks nothing substantive is done by Anwar and his team except to talk about justice and democracy at clap-trap ceramahs and with little frontal attack on this UMNO-led BN in trying to further deepen the divide of our society on race, yet again.

The 1Malaysa is an red herring.

Where have all the Malaysians gone?

If everybody wants to be Malay first, Chinese first, Indian first, Kadazan/Dusun/Murut first, Bajau first, Brunei first, Iban first, Melanau first and Bidayuh first.

Who will stay in the House that Malaysia built?

As every race wants to create their own homes,

nobody is interested in this edifice.

Even though this house is equipped with modern amenities for comfortable living.

And there are many and enough rooms for every race to live comfortably in this beautiful Palace called Malaysia.

But the strange thing is, no one wants to stay in that building because they are afraid of being labelled Malaysians.

They are scared that living in the same house, they will get on each other's nerve, quarrel and fight.

So eventually the structures of the House of Malaysia weakens. It becomes dilapidated and stand solitary.

The people of different races just pass her by and go their separate ways.

Just because, no races want to stay in that beautiful home called Malaysia. They don't care, even if it falls into pieces!

-By degrading 'minah rempit', not only Anonymous is degrading woman (if indeed 'minah rempit' is one), but degrading the rempit culture which is the future foundation of PERKASA. Please be careful with your comments.

- Why not focus on the aspects of the article you agree/ disagree and do an internal critique of it (philosophical discourse, anonymous and Tamerlane too. I see that both of you have good ideas and the passion to disagree, so take time to read again and tell me what actually is the intent of the author. For me, after I have written it, the text leaves my consciousness and becomes discourse the public can construct/deconstruct, etc. It has left the author and like Frankenstein, will roam around. Ask a visual artist such as Van Gogh or Warhol or Kandinsky and they'll tell you the same.

- By the way, Ventura Highway you mention re: minah rempit is a highway in California and a song by the folk rock group AMERICA. I was at their 40th. anniversary concert last month -- great band.

- Essentially PERKASA is a fermented entity, made from political rejects, not just out to antagonize other ethnic groups but is misrepresenting the more elegant Malays. But then again, what is a 'Malay'. I would redesign a Malay into a Sawojaya - please refer to an article I wrote on this. Try googling it an see if this new word is in public domain.

- Stay away from petty arguments with minah rempit/mat rempit. They are good people actually; people of the Book who loved Death Metal music. Some of them can articulate theories of creative and ethical anarchy very well, better than the ideologues of PERKASA.

Perjalanan ini terasa sangat menyedihkan
Sayang, engkau tak duduk di sampingku kawan
Banyak cerita yang mestinya kau saksikan
Di tanah kering berbatuan

Tubuh ku terguncang di hempas batu jalanan
Hati tergetar menampak kering rerumputan
Perjalan ini pun seperti jadi saksi
Gembala kecil menangis sedih

Kawan coba dengar apa jawabnya
Ketika ia ku tanya "Mengapa?"
Bapak ibunya telah lama mati
Ditelan bencana tanah ini

Sesampainya di laut ku khabarkan semuanya
Kepada karang, kepada ombak, kepada matahari
Tetapi semua diam, tetapi semua bisu
Tinggal aku sendiri terpaku menatap langit

Barangkali di sana ada jawabnya
Mengapa di tanahku terjadi bencana

Mungkin Tuhan mulai bosan melihat tingkah kita
Yang selalu salah dan bangga dengan dosa-dosa
Atau alam mulai enggan bersahabat dengan kita
Coba kita bertanya pada rumput yang bergoyang

ebiet g ade
Play it on the u tube

I don't think I can cure a foolish person or a racist. I never imply that malays don't pay their taxes but since the non-malays too are paying their taxes why ask for more rent?

Ralfie said...

melayuterakhir,

if you are man of the book then you should know that the Prophet Muhammad never emphasize on race, in fact he despised the practice of racial superiority. Is this not what the Prophet S.A.W said?

"All men(includes women) are equal in Islam, the Arab has no superiority over the non-Arab, nor does the non-Arab have superiority over the Arab, save in the fear of God."

Nobody said it's wrong or disgraceful to be malay, but it's wrong to feel racially superior than the other races. Also, explain to me how DJ Dave's (a indian muslim convert) son can become a malay? Because he joined UMNO?

Dr. AZLY RAHMAN said...

I call upon Malaysians to continue to be critical of any attempt by any race to project their own sense of false superiority that would only breed dangerous ethnocentrism bordering on xenophobia.

We should work together to deconstruct all forms of race-based political arrangement and work towards establishing a new order based on a more egalitarian economic design that takes into consideration the basic needs and dignity of all races.

We should teach our schoolchildren how to deconstruct such sense of racial superiority, through the teaching of not only tolerance but social egalitarianism - via peace education strategies. We will have a lot to gain for generations to come.

Tamerlane said...

I dont think that the majority of Malays believe that they are racially superior, they just wish for those who came after them to at least have a sense of respect over their way of life, sensitivities and other social mores, taboos that has been established for generations. Who is espousing supriority? That only comes from people like you putting words into the mouths of others. You want to see racial superiority you should speak to any chinaman or pendatang and see the tone and the way they speak to you, regardless if youre a tukang sapu or a PhD holder like you. In their eyes a Malay is inferior, no matter what your degree says.

Ralfie, everyone is a racist, the ones that say he isnt is merely a hypocrite. Who is asking for more rent Ralfie? You insinuated that the Malays are exsting merely on the taxes paid by nons. For thousands of years we have existed on these shores. Without the pendatangs we will still live, taxes or not.Talk about superiority and you cant even open your mouth without belittling the malays.

Dr. AZLY RAHMAN said...

The Malays are a social construction of and utilities to their feudal lords ... this identity is now 'trajectoried' into the the UMNO-PERKASA matrix of the cultural master-slave narrative framed in modern times, of the neo-capitalist corporatist Asian state gung-ho-ed by a clever construction of structural violence masked by the 'nice-ties' of Malayness ... It has been a mind game since the dawn of capitalism. We must excavate the ideology and smash it into pieces, until there is no identity of race in its most ethnocentric and xenophobic form(I repeat: in its most ethnocentric and xenophobic form.) exists.

Do you understand the above -- anonymouses, Tamer/Timur Lenglane, melayuterakhir, etc.?

Tamerlane said...

some of us might understand it if you translate it to english. In the present state i dont think ordinary americans even understand it. Try asking the people on the street in NYC if they understand.

Tamerlane said...

snce the dawn of capitalism? When was that doc? was that since adam smiths time or from the dawn of man? Isnt Amrica the motherload of capitalism? Every civilization on earth at one point or another have existed through exploiting others. Are you suggesting we become commies? Imagine there no posession, no religion,no race, no heaven,no God etc. The genius about Lennon is that he knows how to seperate the ideal from the real. Do you understand that doc? Its like poor Ralfie trying to equate ordinary human with the Prophet of God. We are not in the same realities and even the Prophet knew this. Dont take my word though cos i'm just a fool on a hill

melayuterakhir@anonymoues said...

I wonder what has Azly taught the Americans in NYc with all those fancy jargons and how he presents or portrays the Malays to them. Don't know much about philosophy, don't know much Aristote, don't know much about Plato, don't know much about Karl Marx but I do know that one and one is two and I know they are all illusions too
Hei Ralf .....remenber tax is due by end of April man

Tamerlane is the sixth memeber of the Beatles, The fifth is of course Billy Preston :-) I like the weving in of the lyrics intoi this argument.

But folks, we're getting somewhere in this 'argument' on the illusionari-ness of the Malays. I think we will see the light at the end of the tunnel ... or maybe an A-train coming?

All of you are very persistent -- although much in need of substance. Keep going ...

melayuterakhir said...

We've seen that light long time a go Sir. How could you be so blind. The A-trains all are over back home. Wake up and welcome aboard!

Dr. AZLY RAHMAN said...

You have all been mistaken on the idea of 'seeing the light' - you are actually in Plato's cave ... there is another replacement race evolving as we speak.

But first , you will now need to enter the Malay mind -- politely.

Sir do please enter the minds of the poor and the destitutes, the rempits, the bohjans, the bohsia, the baby throwers, the addicts, and the under-employed UMNO youth who thrives on one packet of $2 nasi lemak and some coloured water (when their masters wine and dine in luxury on a daily allowance of $2,000 with their cronies and fellow leeches)They are all my fellow Melayus. Transform them with your philosophies and redesign them to be part your Sawojaya's new race. Then only I might think of going onboard your Sawojaya Noah's ark. I will not be onboard without them....

minah rempit said...

i dont think we need a new race. there shouldnt be one .. There is no such thing as racial differences, there is only one race and it happens to be human race..anyway, count me in mr.azly, im onboard...bon voyage

melayuterakhir said it best. Just because i dont need it, you dont need it that dont mean the rest of us malays dont need it. We cant all be selfish and think of just ourselves at the expense of our brethrens. "You never gave me your money, you only gave me your funny papers " doc.

Its sad that after 52 years we are still talking about race, colour, religion. Malaysia then is behind Burma and Zimbabwe. You see these countries have moved beyond colour of Skin, race, religion.....they have moved to the level of Power, guns, army, ruling elite and in many ways a form of Communism....."All Pigs are created Equal, some Pigs are more Equal than the others"...animal farm. Perhaps Malaysia is in transition to this Phase. Just look and do research as to how many of those Army generals and high ranking officer are related in one way or another to the UMNO leaders. In time the Agong so called Myth "Commander in Chief" could also lose their status. That too will not wake Malaysian up. In fact more will want to clamour and be associated with the more Equal PIGS of UMNO with guns. Malaysian must think of plans of how to disrupt this Potential occurance. Malaysia is not going to experience a change in government given to rakyat on a Silver Platter. If Perak Fiasco, Kugan, Teoh, Anwar, Lina Joy, Altantuya Spin have not awaken you up then nothing will. Even within UMNO there is their levels these days...those who are Dark Malays, Fair Malays, Royal Malays, Poor Malays, Rich Malays, Samseng Malays and Munafik Malays....Its still Malay First then Malaysia 2nd....rest of society 3rd and sampah sarap. A time of Mat Kilau is Approaching....that to me is a true Malaysian.... Pity one has to die to be recognised!! What is stopping Malaysian from being alive and being recognised as True Malaysian?? UMNO racist is at the stage of "Whatever it takes to stay in power!"....what stage are you Pejuang Malaysia??

Tamerlane:

Why should I belittle malay when I am one? Duh! Anyway, when you said the malays had been on this shore much longer than the non-malays I beg to differ that. Explain to me how a person whose parents are indians could have malay written as his race in this birth certificate. If your father is a mat salleh and your mum is a malay, how come you can still have malay written on your birth certificate? How come some would have to follow their father's race?

Ralfie said...

Dr.Azly, you look like the malay version of Jon Stewart in that picture.

Tamerlane said...

Ralfie,Are you one of those self loathing malay unable to fit in your line of work unless to bash your own kind? I'm sure my ancestors were here long ago as i'm from Kedah. Responding to your question, I dunno why it is so cause im not the one who makes the rules. Perhaps these people assimilate more into the malay culture and embrace it as theirs. Tell me why middle eastern people are categorized as white/causasian in the USA? Arabs included.

Ralfie said...

Who says middle eastern people are categorized as white/caucasian in the US? At least that's not most of my friends here put in their census form. I don't loath the malay. I just hate how racist some people can be. I don't care if anybody else wants to act that way but malays are supposedly muslims. If that's how some people, say in Perkasa, wants to act, then how do you attract people to Islam? To me, my race isn't even important. After all you wouldn't be ask that when you die, n'est ce pas tamerlane?

Tamerlane said...

Are you sure about the census? You might wanna double check on that. Is cleopatra known as Egyptian queen or a greek? The point is I'm living. When i'm on the other side i coundnt care less cause i'm sure that nonbelievers wont be there to hasle me

ajoyly said...

Why 1Malaysia/Bangsa Malaysia? Because all races in this country can identify with it. Therefore a common identity.

What does this phrase ' melting pot ' mean? A pot where all ingredients can be put in, like beef, potato, carrot, chilly tomato, pepper, salt
etc..

The purpose is to mix and cook all these. And what would come out from this mixing is a pleasant and tasty dish.

From this analogy, the creation of this nation should be done along the same line. The mixing process is the uniting of all races to create a national identity, 1Malaysia/Bangsa Malaysia.

This country is a melting pot of all races, Malay, Chinese, Indian, Kadazan/Dusun/Murut, Bajau, Brunei, Iban, Melanau, Bidayuh etc. and
why should not these races be combined to produce a common nationality.

Is it wrong to do so? Why must the unity of races be politicised? Shouldn't it be considered a civil development. And to be out of bounds for both the Ruling and Opposition Political Parties.

Let it be a people and citizen oriented movement
Therefore no race should be afraid of being overwhelmed by another. Afterall, it is only an exercise in human relations.

That is so. But it is the basis of how unity is created in a nation.

A high mountain can slide and crash if its base is faulty.

In the same manner when organisations like Perkasa create a sense of fear in Malays that the other races would bully and financially take advantage over them. It is like saying that Malays are weak people and can be easily influenced

This line of argument is wrong and insulting to Malays especially their dignity, ' maruah '. After forty seven years of independence, a big Malay intelligentsia has been created whose intellectual capacity are as good as the Chinese or Indians.

Or even better. And can easily compete in a level playing field. So what is Perkasa talking about, protecting the rights of Malays and so forth !

The educated Malays know their rigts. If Perkasa have to teach them these. Then Perkasa is telling them that their qualifications as educated people are questionable.

It is tantamount to Perkasa questioning their dignity, ' maruah ' as Malays who are knowledgeable. Usually, intelligent persons do not need an organisation to potect what are rightfully theirs. They know what they are?

Perkasa is therefore irrelevant to modern Malays who are more outgoing and global. While Perkasa wants to teach the ' katak dalam tempurung dan sentiasa terancham ' philosopy

Of course I'm sure about the census. Cleopatra is not filling in the census is she?

"When i'm on the other side i coundnt care less cause i'm sure that nonbelievers wont be there to hasle me" - yeah but there won't just be melayu there.

My maternal grandparents were chinese, do you think it's nice listening to some malays saying chinese women came here as prostitutes, they are part of the pendatang who stole the riches of malays etc2? My grandfather was a police inspector, served the Sultan of Johor, was active in Perkim and my grandmother was a teacher. Because they were chinese does that make them less of a human? Did they not contribute to the foundation of this country? Had you been born in a different shoe, I'll bet my life you'll sing a different tune. As Prophet Muhammad S.A.W said treat others like how you would want to be treated. You call yourself a believer but you forgot about the teachings. I can't judge you but that's how you present yourself in here.

Tamerlane said...

Thats right ralfie, cleopatra isnt american but shes egyption with greek DNA. And since youre a sino american why should i give a damn about your take about my country and my people.

well, the Prophet never met a chinaman.

lets just cool off and listen to GnR's one in a million.

"Guess I needed sometime to get away
I needed some piece of mind
Some piece of mind that'll stay
So I thumbed it down to Sixth and L.A.
Maybe a Greyhound could be my way

Police and Niggers that's right
Get out of my way
Don't need to buy none of your
Gold chains today
I don't need no bracelets
Clamped in front of my back
Just need my ticket; 'til then
Won't you cut me some slack?

You're one in a million
Yeah, that's what you are
You're one in a million, babe
You're a shooting star
Maybe someday we'll see you
Before you make us cry
You know we tried to reach you
But you were much too high
Much too high, much too high,
Much too high, yes, ow!

Immigrants and faggots
They make no sense to me
They come to our country
And think they'll do as they please
Like start some mini Iran,
Or spread some fuckin' disease
They talk so many goddamn ways
It's all Greek to me

Well some say I'm lazy
And others say that's just me
Some say I'm crazy
I guess I'll always be
But it's been such a long time
Since I knew right from wrong
It's all the means to an end, I
I keep it movin' along

You're one in a million
Oo, you're a shooting star
You're one in a million, babe
You know that you are
Maybe someday we'll see you, Oo
oh, Before you make us cry
You know we tried to reach you
But you were much too high
Much too high, Oo, much too high
Yeah,
Much too high, huh, no, no, oh
Ow!

Radicals and Racists
Don't point your finger at me
I'm a small town white boy
Just tryin' to make ends meet
Don't need your religion
Don't watch that much T.V.
Just makin' my livin', baby
Well that's enough for me

You're one in a million
Yeah that's what you are
You're one in a million, babe
You're a shooting star
Maybe someday we'll see you
Before you make us cry
You know we tried to reach you
But you were much too high
Much too high, ow, much too high,
Much too high, much too high

Ow! Much too high

much too high, ah, much too high
much too high, ow, much too high)"

When all fails, when all the facts are against you, insult me then eh? Even if the Prophet had met a Chinaman, he'd give them all the respect he can give. Heck, he even respected the very people who treated him badly.
Funny you'd call me sino-american. Sorry to the Johor people to have the sultanate from sino-americans.

Ralfie said...

Anyway Tamerlane, I have nothing much to say. I guess you too have nothing intelligent to contribute to this debate because all you've been doing is to hurl insults at me. Well, if it makes you feel superior and better to insult people who are different than you, than by all means go ahead. I would not stoop to your level and entertain you.

Tamerlane said...

insult ralfie? whos insulting who? typical chinaman condescending remarks to always assume theyre born of higher intelligence than malays. Which proves my point that no matter how many degrees a malay possess, he will always be looked upon as less intelligent on inferior to the chinaman. c'est vrai n'est pas? How sure are you that i'm not a graduate of a US or Uk university? The west will admit a malay to their universities based on merits, but not the chinaman. From now on, i'll call you Rahab
