it was very welllll-planned my frens. by the mother of the empire.
allegience to the mainland china ruled by the manchu?
political idealogy was imported.
who was sun yat sen?
official propaganda...
malaysia was named in 1937 not 1963.

I believe it is more important to ask how could the tensive situation in 1965 be solved differently?

LKY offered to withdraw PAP from national politics for 10 years. And for pragmatic reasons he did not foresee himself or any Chinese for that matter to assume top position in Malaysia anywhere within that time frame. LKY is a proud Chinese no doubt but he was not a 'devil' who harboured evil thoughts against the Malays. He has repeatedly said the day Singapore was expelled was the saddest moment in his life.

Allegience to the Manchus in mainland China? The last Manchu emperor was already a 'repentant' citizen of communist China by that time.

I doubt Malaysia would become different if Singapore had stayed because Singapore would be bullied into being another Penang or KL.
However, I know for certain Singapore would become worse.

UMNO is the root of all evil in Malaysia. If the PAP was government in the 60s, Malaysia would be competing with Japan today.

No idea. It didn't happen. Why speculate?

At least there is no such thing as ketuanan Melayu,no such thing as many nons' imposed on 4o% of the population. At least meritocracy got a say in picking the brainy for the job suitable to his /her merit;a long list and endless one ,what we can learn from the 'if' ,its for UMNO to pick up and think hard rock and do as Najib has promised now or never ...

I think most politicians back then were genuinely concerned with the welfare of the people and with important beliefs and not power and money, unlike the bunch of clowns we have now.I always thought that the 2 Chinese politicians LKY and TSS(Tan Siew Sin) represented the 2 sides of a coin,a question still relevant today:Should we risk stability and champion for rights or is this "surface" stability far too important to be put at risk?Maturity of the mind and reason is the key I think.

It would certainly be different. For better or worse, that would be very impossible to predict. There will be many factors that would come into play.

I like Singapore's development of infrastructure, public services, and public transport... but I dislike the uber-authoritarian approach taken by LKY, and the sterility of the culture there.

"I dislike the uber-authoritarian approach taken by LKY, and the sterility of the culture there"

In Malaysia innocent people are put under ISA arrest to supposedly protect them. I think this would be a first for Singapore. Hei, we beat them to it. "uber-authoritarian" enough for you?

Cultural sterility in a city which can offer more food variety and cultural events than Malaysia? Bias?

With the draconian laws and the abuse of power as the order of the day, so you know the answer. It is best that you stay put in New York rather than coming back to Malaysia.
Flooded with incompetent leaders and Malaysia is trapped in the world of mediocrity, so 10 LKY in Malaysia will be simply sideline by UMNO in the name of Malay supremacy.
Malaysia is now a very confused nation of 1Malaysia, people last, performance later - be a good pretender and a hypocrites leader.
