As students living and breathing the world of knowledge, we must embody the ethos of questioning. We must question everything and not allow answers to live inside of us for long.

A REPUBLIC OF VIRTUE

"Everything is good in the hands of the author of Things, everything degenerates in the hands of Man," said Jean Jacques Rousseau, the spiritual force of the French Revolution.

“Know thyself know thy enemies, one hundred battles one hundred victories," said the legendary Chinese military leader Sun Tzi.

If there is a thesis statement or a guiding idea of this opinion piece, it is this: question authority, break new frontiers of thinking, but listen to the voice of the inner self in order to serve humanity. As an educator and a learner, three things should matter: pride, patience, and perspectives.

We live in interesting times, as chairman Mao Zedong once said; interesting because the forces of globalisation is at perpetual war with humanity's inner sense of beingness. Interesting because even amongst the natives that have been granted “independence” from the colonial masters, classes of oppressors and the oppressed, powerful and the powerless, masters and slaves are being created – in the name of nationalism and patriotism. In the name of religion as well.

We fail to see our “other self”.

We are a republic onto itself. We are a kingdom we govern ourselves. In each and every one of us lies an inner world bigger than the world outside - a world if known, if and only iff we know ourselves – is a world in which freedom reigns and one in which the self refuses to be caged and shackled by structures of oppression built by others.

The essence of being human is that of having the insatiable urge to question and to search for answers, and next, not satisfied with the answers, to continue to question. Some revolutionary thinkers call this dialectics; the permanent revolution in our world of cognition. Becoming a human being is a process – we are as a French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre would say, beings in the process of becoming and by doing so we define the world and able to "name" it. We have always lived a life in which our world is already pre-determined, our belief system prepackaged, and our knowledge of the political world prepared for us as propaganda produced and disseminated by those who owns the means of producing propaganda. We have live in what a British writer Eric Blair/George Orwell called a world of "doublespeak" wherein what it said has its form and appearance.

Ethos of questioning

As students living and breathing the world of knowledge, we must embody the ethos of questioning. We must question everything and not allow answers to live inside of us for long. It is only through this process that we will feel and experience within ourselves – our Inner world – the process of constant or permanent revolution in how we acquire our understanding of the world. Only then can we transform the world.

To evolve into wiser individuals with enquiring minds, we must ask questions and reflect upon the answers suggested, given, or shoved down to us. If we are afraid to ask questions, our mind and consciousness will be owned and manipulated by those who think they have the right answers, or by those who wants to use force to tell us what the right answers shall be. This is happening in all context of education across life spans. From pre-school to graduate school and in formal and informal settings – many cannot differentiate between education, schooling, training, and indoctrination.

Question authority – that was what a Harvard University historian of science Thomas Kuhn spoke about in his book "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" which chronicled the advancement of scientific knowledge made possible by questions raised in each field of science – questions that made paradigms collapse, giving birth to newer ones. It is through the breaking down of paradigms of understanding that the world of learning revolves. It is through the creation of frontiers of thinking that we can bring totalitarian regimes down, from the corridors of academia and into the consciousness of the common man or woman. As the Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky would say, we must bring down the elitist nature of understanding to the proletarianistic mode thinking of the universe of the masses; a universe ready to revolt en mass against the domination of the powerful over the powerless.

Every moment of our waking life must be a philosophical one. Every moment must generate enough questions to make us go to bed still questioning the phenomena we see around us and the experiences we are confronted with in that waking moment. Questions make us more human just as the food we eat gives us the strength to continue living as human beings and the self-affirmation mantras/doas/zikirs/prayers we say silently to ourselves give us the inner strength to feed our spirit so that we may know ourselves better and ultimately know the Creator.

The mind, the body, and the spirit become the tripartite of this beingness and becomingness of our existence. It creates, recreates, constructs and reconstructs this kingdom of the Self we inhabit. Not even the Sultans some choose to bow down to in this world of illusion, can ever see how powerful the inner kingdom we have built within us – only if we are aware of the power within. Not even the Neon Gods on Times Square New York reigning on New Year's Eve, come close to understanding how beautiful and glorious the Inner World we inhabit - again, only if we know who we are.

We are evolving selves in a journey to understand, realize, and finally inhabit and embody the Ultimate Truth. The truth is universal. We are little truths that live in the moments of the particular. I shall not elaborate further this philosophical notion of Universalism versus the Particularism, Form versus Appearance, the evolving self versus the larger Self as to confuse you. You will need to experience this journey yourself – by first questioning authority and freeing yourselves from the mental and spiritual cages you let others with money and the skills to create architecture of power built.

Basic questions

Who are you as a self that questions your very existence? Let me offer some a clue of what being an "individual" means; of what being a ruler of one's own kingdom entails. But first, let us ponder upon these basic questions:

How are human beings controlled by those who own the means of intellectual and economic production?

How does power, in its raw and refined form, operate in our society?

How is it dispersed?

How is power sustained?

How is truth produced?

How is truth multiplied?

How is the self constructed?

How are we alienated?

What is inscribed onto the body and into the mind, in the process of schooling?

How is human imagination confined and how might it be released?

How is the mind enslaved by the politics of knowledge?

How is historical knowledge packaged?

How do we define our existence in this Age of Information?

Who decides what is important in history?

What is an ideal multi-cultural society?

How has our idea of multi-culturalism influence the way we live our lives?

What historical knowledge is of importance?

What tools do we need to create our own history?

How is the individual more powerful than the state?

How is a philosopher-king created?

How is justice possible?

Who should rule and why?

How do we teach about social justice?

And finally, how might we realise a democratic-republic of virtue - one that is based on a form of democracy that is meaningful and personal?

This country belongs to the children of the next generation. The children of all races. The children of all of us who are perpetually in crisis and in conflict with each other, with the environment, and with the confusion over our needs and our wants and over our identity.

The children deserve a government that gives them a good moral compass, environment that is jealously protected guided by a philosophy of sustainability, a sound economy that regulates social and economic justice, a tolerant society that respects all and learn from each other, a strengthener of family values, a world-class education system that teaches them based on their diverse needs, free education to the level of the university, one that closes the gap between the filthy rich and the abject poor, an uncompromising system of check and balance, safe streets, a philosophy of development that teaches them to prioritize needs more than wants, a promoter of a nation of readers and writers, a discourager of the culture of 500-channel-TV, a promoter of strong local government, a breed of politicians who know when to leave when the time comes, and a nation that continue to create its own history-- one based on the struggles of the poor of all races, not history that glorifies the aristocrats, robber barons, and dictators.

Can the next government prepare our children with such a future? The challenge for us students and educators is to engineer a revolution that will transform power relations and install a system of aristocracy for the many.

Revolt, if we must. Peacefully, must it be done. Begin in the corridors of academia, come what may.

I think complete your Education First before Revolt better if you are studying in Malaysia.

Thanks to Tun Dr. Munafik University acts, another Kangaroo court he built there to protect his administration.

Meanwhile do something not natural to your DNA and disrupt the Tools of Regim Ganas Kejam UMNO....UMNO thinks it is smooth sailing for Najis to ascend to the throne of PM. Then we make him the Shortest serving PM like his Short Fat Botox wife!!...less than 12 months would be good...If only we have the WILL!!

Intelligence is never seen in the answers given but in the question asked.

All that is happening, had happened and will happened. That's the vanity of life.

Why question ?

When authority is illegitimate (different from elected), its your duty to question and challenge understandings for yourself your family and your children.

(now look at the situation in Burma, Zimbabwe etc - the citizens did not challenge and act against oppression when there was stll time, and now their children are destitute, huddled in fear, and in abject poverty)

But don't do it mindlessly, not for others, not because of others - only for you and your children. First be true and accountable to yourself.

Dont be a victim of 3rd class politicians, of criminal police, of crooked judges -
Standup and be a man rich in culture, strong in mind, independent in judgment, aware of community and traditions, and a protector of your family and children.

- Things are brewing HOT in Perak & UMNO/BN is still in “Denial” even at this 11th hour of our nation’s “Political & Financial tsunami” -
Democracy vs Gutter Politics & Rule of Law vs Law of the Jungle!

- Do you know what is happening in this Bolehland ?

- With the "Double Whammy" Financial & Political Tsunami at our doorsteps....

- there is still no "Structured Contingency plan nor Quantums" in place...

-Whilst the G20 Presidents/PMs/FMs/Governments are strategising & synergising their positions on the GLOBAL FINANCIAL "Chess Board"....

In this Bolehland....

Mahathir wants to retire gracefully but....cannot yet..

- with Mukhriz's position still "Hung."

- Pak lah also wants to retire gracefully but....cannot yet...

- with SIL's position still "Hung."

- Perak MB Ahmad Nizar, his team & the rayaat want the call for the Emergency Meeting to consider "Dissolving" the PR/BN Assembly & to move forward with a fresh State Elections but....

- the UMNO/BN is still in "Denial & Hung mode"....

- Bank Negara's Zeti also wants to retire gracefully with a UN position but....cannot yet...

- as PM & Finance Minister/PM wannabe are still...

"Quarreling with PR & Anak Bangsa Malaysia with POLITICS JAGUH KAMPONG ala KINDERGARTEN style & still playing with Marbles" when all the other nation's PM & FM are playing "Chess."

- Desperate People, at Desperate Times, will RESORT to Desperate Henious Actions even if it means “Destroying” their “Honourable Family Legacy”, their own “MALAY MUSLIM HADHARI” party “UMNO” beyond “Redemption”, their component BN party, their Own Kind, this country & its Many People !

- It will be UMNO/BN's "Missed Opportunity & Loss" by "UMNO's OWN CHOICE!"

We the "Rayaat" have to be "Proactive" and it is a matter of "What can I do for myself & my family NOW" rather than...

- "Ayooo...will the gomen help me....

- how to live with no money lor !"

- SOON....it will be "Every man for himself"....

- Only you can save yourself & every man for himself....

- So please consider repositioning yourselves & family financially (mortgages, Loans, children’s educational expenditures, etc)...

- Rentals cheaper than >50% loans repayments; downsize your mortgages, cars/loans, etc.

- reposition your profession, career, jobs, etc;

- Remember every dollar is precious & “Cash is King",

- As such...my frenz....“Pleez Fasten your seatbelts tight” to safely rideout this "Double Whammy" Financial & Political Tsunami !
