Release all ISA detainees, freedom is not a luxury

This new regime needs to close The Kamunting Detention Camp, in line with the Obama Administration's pledge to close Guantanamo Bay. I call upon this government to release all detainees. The rakyat will only support a government that respects, upholds, and protects fundamental liberties.

To PM Najib,
Thanks and no thanks for releasing the 13 ISA detainees including the 2 from Hindraf. It is just an eyewash to show that he is making the necessary changes. Superficially yes but in sincerity a big no. Why? Of the Hindraf 5, the ones released are not the actual leaders but small timers picked up with the real leaders. Why didn't he deem it fit to release Uthayakumar who is a cronic diabetic deprived of proper medical care and food? There in lies his sham. And what about the other detainees? Are they not human? Don't they need to be pardoned?

If the 13 detainees were released conditionally, that is unswervering allegiance, loyalty and abject slave mentality as a prerequisite for freedom, then it is another malicious farce.

Why lift the banning of the Harakah and Suara Keadilan now? In the first place they should not have been banned for 3 months. What was the aim in curtailing freedom of expression if not just to be arrogant and to impress on the people that the BN is the boss and all others must be like slaves, subservient to it.

If Najib wants to really reform UMNO/BN and bring about a semblance of democracy, he has to implement the suggestions of Amnesty International and the reforms for human values and rights set up by the UN.

Playing the race and religious cards with the view to divide and rule may have brought billions and dividends for the UMNOputras but the UMNOputras do not make Malaysia.

The highjacking of the NEP has brought a lot of benefit to the UMNOputras but not to the poor Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban, Kadazan, Murut or the poor bumiputra Penans.

Real CHANGE like the law must not only take place but should be seen to take place and it should benefit all citizens. Meritocracy should replace race, religious affliations and political patronage.

Political rhetoric is no panacea for reforms and change. The government of the day with Najib as its head must have the will to walk the talk.
