Rather than merely speculate who will win in the coming by-election, let us all think like a futurist to predict, using the tools of "Futuristics", what the scenario will be after the election. Futurism is not about using the findings, conclusions, and recommendations of the Malaysian bomoh or political soothsayers to tell us what will happen but to look at the direction of change based on the complexity of the system.

The question is: how might Permatang Pauh determine the direction of change? How will the landscape of Malaysian politics, society, economy, national security, law and order, and education change as a result of the outcome of Permatang Pauh.

This is my shortest post. I have been writing long long complicated proses :-). I am taking a break.

Let your analysis be as long as you wish. Be governed by ethics and scientific reasoning in our comments though. Remember, the youth and possibly children are reading these comments. They want to learn about the future we adults are leaving them behind. Let us be polite yet critical and imaginative.

What our country need right no is not another wave of controversy but the pragmatics and ethics of a new era or a new deal, whatever what might call this change; one that will come naturally. Man proposes, God disposes. We need a direction and a new paradigm and we need a new breed of selfless leaders.

Look forward to your excellent and constructive comments, as usual. Certainly, we are living in interesting times, certainly. Is this the end of a beginning? Or vice versa?
Enjoy the Permatang Pauh show.

It will bring us a strong indication from majority of the people that we wanna have new government led by DaTuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and God willing the majority differences will be big ,really big that it will prove to the other side that what was found in the survey saying their popularity is at new low now,is TRUE,and nothing but the true

YES. I AM ALL FOR IT. CHANGE IS INEVITABLE. FROM THE TINIEST ATOMS TO THE WHOLE UNIVERSE, WHAT MORE FOR HUMAN BEINGS AND THE COUNTRY'S POLITICIANS. THIS IS THE GENERAL LAW OF CAUSE AND EFFECT. THE QUESTION FOR US NOW IS WILL IT BE FOR BETTER OR FOR WORSE. THE DAY WILL COME WHEN DECISIONS MADE BY POLITICIANS ARE FOR THE GOOD OF THE COUNTRY AND RAKYAT. THERE WILL BE NO DISCRIMINATIONS. FOR NOW WE NEED TO CHANGE THE CURRENT CROP OF POLITICIANS WHO PARROT, BARK AND CHAMPION ONLY THEIR BREED, COLOUR, RELIGION, RACE. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRUE PEACE AND HARMONY AND A FUTURE FOR ALL.

Yes indeed, interesting times and uncertainty times for Permatang Pauh by election! The winner, if in a fair and just election, would undoubtedly be DSAI.
However, in these times of great uncertainty under a generally perceived weak and ineffective government who is undergoing internal political turmoil, and coupled with global economic upheaval, it wouldn’t surprise me that Pak Lah might resort to dirty politics if he feels he is not winning over the voters with the usual freebies and (he thinks) his triumph card announcement of a decrease in fuel price just before polling day.

Scene 1: Pak Lah says “bugger it!” and cast aside all possible implications & consequnces and just forcibly charged and convicted DSAI with the sodomy charge.
Result: DSAI is once again robbed of contesting for an MP seat and is send to prison.
Ending: The UMNO candidate wins Permatang Pauh election with a walk-over while the PKR lost one Parliament seat. Pak Lah is very happy, most in UMNO are happy, 70% of Malaysians are outraged, and the whole of the democratic world cried ‘foul’. Pak Lah will say “So what? Justice has to be done for that poor suffering boy Saiful. Nobody is above the law!” or some other equally smart remarks thought up by some Oxford educated graduate.

Scene 2: Pak Lah instructs “fix-it-all” man to stage riots and mass public disturbance in Permatang Pauh.
Result: The by-election is suspended and tight security is enforced. Pak Lah will announced to the poor people of Permatang Pauh and all Malaysians that this is what’s going to happen if PKR comes into power, and that only the BN, through UMNO of course, can ensure security and prosperity for all Malaysians.
Ending: DSAI sodomy trial is rammed through the court and is guilty as charged. UMNO candidate is handed a walk-over victory on a golden platter. Pak Lah is well pleased, UMNO is reasonably pleased, 80% of Malaysians gnashing their teeth, while condemnation pour forth from the democratic world. And Pak Lah will say: “Jadih? Marah, marah lah!”.

My point is, no matter how we look at it, victory will not be with DSAI as the power is in Pak Lah’s hands. Unless, of course, Pak Lah decides to play fair and is or feel confident that the people still support him and have began to understands why he had to do all the stupid things that he had done and all for, as he puts it, “To lessen the people’s heavy burden!”.

Permatang Pauh indicates nothing. It is another Gua Musang, occupied with voters whose blind loyalty doesn’t lead to any change.

PR needs a new true leader who could think out of the box. One who believe in a system that he is now creating.

I do not see this quality in Anwar, he doesn’t have the courage.

Youth and children learn nothing from this show. Don’t waste your time, better go watch Olympic.

It is very simple dear Malaysians!!

All the idiot IGP and AG are half past 3 standard! Half past 6, the self proclaimed smarter ones, are located at 4th Floor in Zoo Malaysia!!

When the high-powered arrest was planned, how can brother Anwar knew about it and immediately sneaked into Turkey's Embassy?

They know that when stupid idiot IGP and AG attempting to finish Sotomee PartII, they were doing it without the best Director: Saitan MahalDeal.

The Part II most important scripts page two was gone missing!

Which was the most important part! That is to have brother Anwar Arrested one week before the actual date of arrest!!

So stupid IGP and moron AG are naturally born stupid! Without their former Director, they cannot complete filming Sodomee Part II!!

Can you see how stupid and idiotic they were and still are!!!!

With all and everything under their control, they also cannot get a simple job done!!!

Can you all agree with me that they are truly useless, hopeless, helpless, brainless and heartless *******s!!!!!

Phew, so hard to log in and post.

If Anwar wins with an increased majority, it is a signal of a changed and solidified ground support.

If the BN candidate loses his deposit, it is clear that umno has totally lost malay support, and cannot be said to represent the malays! Not to mention the historic loss of face. It would be a clear signal that a change of govt is required immediately, and a mandate to BN MPs to cross over to effect the change!

But in all livelihood, several BN MPs will cross over just after nomination day, hastening the process and the expected groundswell. There would be no more fence sitters by polling day. It would be a last call for BN MPs!

The outcome of this by-election is crystal clear. Anwar will win by a huge majority >30k votes. The BN candidate may lose his deposit. Anwar will lead the opposition in Parliament. BN will be utterly demoralised. The rank and file members will start to mutiny, not only in UMNO but the component parties as well. There will be resignations everywhere, at first a tiny stream but soon followed by mass resignations. It is inevitable that MPs will soon abandon BN and switch to PR. Anwar will become the next PM and usher in a new Malaysia. The corrupted apparatus such as PDRM, Judiciary, Immigration, etc of the bankrupt regime will be overhauled and capable, qualified leaders regardless of race or religion will be appointed to deliver results not empty talk. A better confident Malaysia will emerge followed by increase investments from foreign companies. I am predicting the above even though I know DSAI will be arrested soon but I remain confident that he will be exonerated through a lengthy trial. I share the views of captmarco: Have faith in God.

The outcome of the Permatang pauh is crucial for our youths and future generations. Let's take this opportunity to show them that they need to think out of the box and don't let BN, in particular UMNO, to continue putting the virtual shell over our heads. 50 years of BN rule and the rots they have perpertuated all this while is enough! Our youths and future generations deserve a better environment to grow up in our beautiful country, not growing up to become lazy rent seekers like the UMNO goons.

Given the appropriate opportunities our muti-racial youths and future generations can grow up to become citizens who can take challenges, more so with the ongoing globalisation.

Dear Dr,

The Answer is:

* Malaysian politics : 99% Denial of Barisan Nasional by the Rakyat.
* Society : Unity of the Rakyat either one may be a Malay, Chinese, Indian etc unseen insofar standing united behind DSAI to ENSURE that DSAI WINS.
* Economy : Rakyat FULL EXPECTATION placed in the hands of DSAI's by giving him the Victory to stimulate the changes.
* National Security : The RAKYAT NOW knows Well and Clear that there NEVER HAD BEEN ANY THREAT from ANY RAKYAT But Imaginary THREATS CREATED by Barisan Nasional to create CHAOS among the Multiracial Rakyat. The ONLY THREAT to our Bangsa & Negara are those Corrupted Cynical Barisan Nasional Politicians whom create and re-create their justification for holding power viz largely conceptualized by "mobilizing fear and greed for personal advantage with a predictable or intended outcome to instill terror".

* Law and Order : Retrospection into the Current Corrupted Practices & Abuse ,and;

* Education change : Elimination of Hate Crime.

Temenggong,

I agree with you, my comment will never make sense to any PR hardcore supporters.

I believe in any bi party system, the voter is classified into three groups, in Malaysia context, I would say there is the deep BN, deep PR and those stand in the middle. Regardless what we do, we can hardly change the mind of the first two groups and therefore the final result is in the hand of the middle group. The middle group are voters who could easily swing, who last round rush to vote PR and now become fad up and make up his mind not to vote again or could be one who decide not to vote in the last election but can’t wait to vote BN back into power. How PR is going to capture this group of voters who are mostly educated, urbanize and analytical is to me the most imperative task. PR must be creative enough to convince them that Anwar could make a difference, all the event happen recently is not just the struggle of power between few idiots.

When I said Anwar cannot think out of the box I doesn’t mean his rhetoric on manifesto, I mean his politicking strategy and skill.

Read Nuraina Samad “No-brainer, man. Every politician will contest in his home-ground -- Tun Dr Mahathir in Kubang Pasu, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in Kepala Batas, Najib Abdul Razak in Pekan, Shahrir Samad in Johor Baru .../ and the list goes on.”

Read Aisehman “Yes, I agree with Khairy that Anwar is going for a safe seat, and yes, if he is as popular as he makes himself out to be, why didn’t he get one of his PKR machais in Parliament to step aside? However, KJ dude, you have very little standing in this matter, as you yourself went for the safe seat of Rembau. You have roots in Rembau, you say?”

You see? Everyone is compare Anwar against the Umno old way of politicking, that means the 3.8 GE where all this Tony Pua, Hannah Yeoh, Charles Santiago, Jeff Ooi or even Nurul who kick the butt of the old timer with huge majority doesn’t inject any new idea or fresh courage to this old man who continue to grab his root in Permatang Pauh.

Do we honestly believe Anwar could lead us to a new era? I doubt it, and those middle group voters might also doubt it.

If Rhan is a middle class Malay, I can understand his pessimism about DSAI. Many Malays regard the present government has given them so much in terms of self esteem, power, wealth, protection, security etc. They perceive DSAI has sold out the Malays for the other races especially the Chinese. That the reason why so much rhetoric about 'ketuanan'. So they feel a bit uncomfortable, unsecure and loosen up their trust on DSAI. This is what they have in mind because they perceive their future would not be that bright and secure under DSAI. This is to show of their of lack confidence in competeting with the non-Malays, especially the Chinese. They fear their share of opporturnity will be unpolitely graped by the non-Malays, especially the Chinese. The Chinese has been perceived as greedy and ruthless opportunity grapers. The Chinese is been seen as hindarance to the advancement of other races and thus create the feeling of distrust and not so comfortable toward the Chinese. The Chinese are their bogeyman. So not suprising if BN get most of the votes from the Malays in Permatang Pauh plus the hardcore 'still hoping to cari makan' mca, gerakan, mic, and ppp men. Majority of the non-Malays will vote DSAI. The non-Malays would rather take up the gamble on DSAI rather than the proven unrealiable and arrogant present government which in and out has abused their power. The last straw is the keris incident and all those hurting words lashed out prior to the 12GE. The Chinese is also been perceived as gamble, thus to gamble on a 'seem changed devil' rather on the devils that seem not wanting to change or devils that still perceive they are the tuan' and the useless, toothless and the 'cari makan untuk sendiri' mca, gerakan, mic, and ppp. Till now the present regime still cannot convince the non-Malays that they can be relied on. All the 'pembohong' against DSAI and the running of the government affairs make them more resolve to trust DSAI rather than the present governemnet. Mca, mic, gerakan, ppp, sorry your time is up, better close shop.

Dr. Azly you've seen the real proof of diversity where you're at the moment, and you been a Malay and have given a solid frame of mind, why is it something of pluralistic society of Malaysia ethnic makeup the Malay majority in Malaysia don't seem to understand the word diversity? Explain to us if you can that is.. what part of the word diversity is becoming so apparent for Malaysian Malay not to understand the true meaning of diversity? Given the nature of each individual on this planet to be gifted, and talented, and to contribute in their own little way..why in this growing pain of human suffering to excel why Indians in Malaysia are targeted? Malay, Chinese, Indian and our indigenous brothers & sisters from Sabah & Sarawak are equally good in achieving to put Malaysia where it belongs, and yet the country is reeling towards hate & anger streamlined in the academics and political environment? How can a teacher who manifest the true gift of giving, and yet calling names that makes each of us as Indians no matter where they're to take this insult after insult in Malaysia, let alone the veiled Malay woman in Perak parliment made a puking remark that not anyone can be easily forgotten.

Given the nature you're in the academic environment, is it possible if you can make a meaning and eventful contribution to stem out racial prejudices that is subjected towards marginalized communities like ourselves. I think this will be great service you would do been a Malaysian. It would be a great asset if you can step in a put a stop in this name calling in front of growing adults in their prime age to emulate behaviours that will better represent them as a people and not quantified on the genetic marker or makeup. What would your White, Black, Hispanics, Asian colleagues in your present academics environment would make of this and determine the horrible nature Malaysia is spiraling into this cataclysmic rapture?

Permatang Pauh by election will certainly bring great impact to Malaysians... political and economical situation will be directly affected, for good and for bad.... investment climate will change....
however to the general public.... life goes on....

The next question is what next after PP? Getting enough MPs (30) from the BN stable will be greatly difficult though not to be discounted...

However, going by the books, the BN (especial UMNO)will not let it happen... and they will resist all the way by hook or by crook (it's their Political (and economical) survival, it's their rights... as it is too the Rakyats' rights for wanting of change...
Anyway.... looking at the current situation... PP is in DSAI's pocket since day 1.... it's only a matter of officially recognizing it and the winning margin to count, no matter what strategies or tricks the BN cook up (or crook up).

If indeed after DSAI wins the PP election... PR managed to gather enough MPs to form the Federal Government as "announced" come 916...
There could be a few scenarios that we may face....

i) the current BN government acts in a gentleman manner, resigns and handover the Administration to PR (it's a dream, a great dream..... a day dream for this to happen)... let's dream, ok?

ii)there could be immediate backlash from the current Administration (very likely), especially those TUANs. Certain quaters may even resort to create chaos and attempt to destabilise the unity and peacefulness of the country in order to hold on to power.

Overall,I would see that it will be good and well for the country and people in the long run when there are equal balance of strength in the Government and Opposition in our Parliament.
However,if indeed the winds of change blew stronger there will be great uncertainties in the immediate and medium terms... politically and economically....
If indeed the change do happen.... the BN, the PR, the goverment agencies and the people will have to go through a period of adjustments and adaptation, it may take at least 1 or 2 terms for a new Administration to show results...
The Business community will also have to go through this period of adaptation...
and lots more....

ARE WE READY for this radical change?
READY OR NOT.... LET'S FACE IT
FOR THE BETTER OF OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS.....
I PROUD TO BE PART OF OUR COUNTRY'S HISTORICAL TRANSFORMATON
