Great Dialogue from the Bhagavad Gita.

I have taught the Bhagavad Gita in translation, in a course called Cross Cultural Perspectives. I find it a fascinating philosophical text that speaks to our predicament in this age of illusion, alienation, despair, complexity, and chaos. Here is the English-translated Gita in detail:

Dr. Sir,

You are indeed a man of the world. If only most Malaysians are like you, our country would be a most peaceful and prosperous country.

Do come back and be the beacon of light for our lost souls. Education is the key to freedom of mind, body and country. We need a fully qualified Minister od Education like you to chart the ccurse of our future generations.

God speed, my good doctor.

Thanks for the two humbling comments above.

As for the movie, it was out at least 20 years ago, I think. Excellent Italian production with a truly international cast. It's called "Mahabharatta" (The Great War). As we know teh Bhagavad Gita is a section of the Mahabharata, called The Lord Prayer or Krshna's Counsel for Arjuna in the battlefield of Kurukshetra.

Dear Dr. Azly,
I was indeed surprised to read that you have taught Bhagavad Gita. Surprised because a Muslim is not supposed to read/discuss or even mention any other religious philosophy other than Islam.
I have read many of your articles that have appeared in the Malaysian blogosphere. I find your goodself to be a truly enlightened person who would and could be a beacon of hope in our country which has become not a microcosm of diverse ethnic, religious and cultural entity but a deeply divided one based on ethnicity and religion.

We need leaders who are far-sighted, open-minded, caring and without vested interest to colour their decision making process.

After the last general election, the Malaysian society has shown much maturity and woken up to the fact that they have been taken for a jolly good ride by the BN leaders.

"Malaysia truly Asia" is just propaganda by the BN but in spirit Malaysia has become a reserved nation for the ruling elite, the UMNOputras.

Hope your goodself would write more articles in our blogs, especially on religions which would enlighten some of the religious fanatics who seem to be taking the country closer to the brink of chaos and talibanization.
