I thought the American-produced video below gives a good modern introduction to the Koran. A good companion to a solitary and reflective reading of the text itself.

The concept of god and his religious texts came about as a psychological balm to soothe the cognitive dissonance (emotional pains) between the primordial fear of mortality and the conscious awareness of the certainty of mortality.
Some (not all) theists will go the most extremes of human behavior in killing one another, based on apparent fears and paranoid, inorder to sustain and protect that psychological comfort.
Any reasonable holy text must incorporate Poka Yoke (Quality Jargon) principles of, foolproofing, failsafe, and idiot-proofing measure to ensure none of its following can take advantage/abuse of any ambiquity for his/her own psychopathic ends.
When reading the Bible, Dharmapada, Gita, Koran, etc,, take note of the above.
Mr Worrier. One need not agree to others argument. I blief in God in my own way..I am not an atheist. U think why atheist. Is it not because of conflcts brought about by the beliefers themselves.
I wish you react in such away towards the terrorist muslims (since u r obviously a muslim!)all over the world instaed of giving excuses to the way they behave.These breed of people who paint an ugly picture about faith and religion.
I wish the muslim all over the world put their foot down and tell what is right and wrong in Islam terrorism and show their stand openly.

Approach the study of scriptures with a peaceful mind. Read each text with an open mind and draw conclusions independent of what powerful global media perception managers produces.

To an atheist like myself all religious faith is irrational but as you are primarily concerned with Islam, perhaps you can, please, explain what is erroneous about this writer's claim that there is no taxonomical connection between Islam and Christianity/Judaism.
