Past the post-modern architecture, surpassing basic needs

As a child, I have always wondered why human beings build tall structures. My favourite story concerning reaching the heavens was Jack and the Beanstalk and I have always dreamed of going into the clouds everytime I lay on the ground. sometimes for hours, looking at the sky.

But is Man seeking to reach the Divine by building structures of power using Knowledge that creates spaces of power as well? There was a time, instead of thinking of Jack and the Beanstalk and staring at the clouds, I sought answers to this by reading Jacques Ellul and Lewis Mumford.

The Pyramids, The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Empire State Building, The Petronas Twin Towers -- are they spiritually inspired? -- Or build merely to cure Inner Repression? How many millions have perished in the process of inscribing or etching and embalming the name of that one single individual we call this or that "great king or ruler"?

Again, of the ruling class rewritten many times ... I think of Zimbabwe, Darfur, and Palestine as I think of Dubai
