The Biro Tata Negara (BTN) is the chief institution that disseminates the idea of Malay supremacy, makes Malays docile, wages nDoc germ warfare on Malays, breeds inter-racial hatred, destroys the possibility of inter-race dialogue, makes Malays afraid of themselves and their own shadow, and psyches Malays into believing that only UMNO is their true saviour. Dr. Azly Rahman Bonda senyum riang (Mother smiled with joy) While those in power can make and break all the rules they want, those who are powerless are forced to kowtow to the demands, however ridiculous these may seem. The multitude of high profile corruption cases, unsolved, attest to the arrogance of the powerful amongst us. The record number of Constitutional amendments this country as seen since Independence too illustrate the nature of control of one branch of government over the others. Biro Totalitarianisma Negara A successful master-slave narrative needs this brand of ideology in order for soft power to be sustained. A dependency syndrome as such is a necessary creation of the powerful to gain control over the powerless. This is also the hidden doctrine of slavery and mental servitude. The silent and docile Malay is successfully reproduced generation after generation. The feel-good of this doctrine is akin to the "feel-good" sensation of a "freshie-ragging" session during Orientation Week in many a Malay-dominated institution of learning in which the culture of "abang/kakak - adik angkat" prevails. Both parties derive pleasure out of the structurally-violent relationship. At a deeper historical level, this is how neo-feudalistic mode of thinking gets perpetuated. The State becomes the postmodern Feudal Kingdom. These programs are based on a flawed philosophy of leadership and human development. They are meant to deliberately create Spartans and not Athenians in our youth. Spartans merely follow rules while Athenians create philosophies that spark revolutions and innovations celebrating humanism. Greek (and Islamic) philosophy inspired the European Renaissance movement which then sparked the Scientific Revolution. The government-indoctrination programs of the Malaysian government, perhaps funded through an unlimited budget, waste the talent of our youth and failed to inculcate creativity and multiple-intelligence capacities. They may strengthen the body but weaken the mind at a time when "brain power" is needed in world in which "information is the currency" and "brain-power industries" are the foundation of economies. We need a new ship and a brand new crew. We need a true blue Bahtera Merdeka. It is now probably docking either in Sabah or Sarawak. [REMINDER: As usual, please leave comments that educate and that will bring our level of discussion to a higher intellectual plane. We are all learning to propose avenues to build a new republic upon the ruins of the old. Deconstruct paradigms, not people. People are as good as the politics and paradigm that produce them. Let us continue to be ethical and gentle yet deeply critical in our writings. Malaysia-Today is a privilege for what we are trying to achieve. It has either happened by design or otherwise. Either way, it does not tell very much about UMNO leaders. Look at UMNO. No leadership contest. Contest will cause disunity. What would they have achieved if they did just that? What would happen if more Chinese and Indian were placed in our Education Systems? What would Malaysia achieve if we had Chinese Ministers managing MITI, MOF, and a whole lot of other forward looking and moving and productive policies that were not Race-based policies? What would happen if Malay Chambers of Commerce would have been a partner of Tan Sri Robert Kuok in international commodities trading? What would happen if we had a National Policy in Bio-fuel that participated by let say 500 oil palm based companies? Malaysia could have been the most productive, prosperous, developed Nation! Today, the biggest threats to our Nation are Electricity, Water, Basic Food Prices, and Fuel NOT about BN/UMNO loosing power, loosing 5 States to Oppositions NOT Chinese are richer NOT Indians no longer support BN NOT Voters NOT supporting BN NOT young Voters NOT voting BN! Can all those Politicians who zoom into my Hero Raja Petra Kamarudin's Malaysia Today for true powerful and genuine opinion update please pick those concerns and start a sensible brain-storming session to quickly overcome all those compelling and pressing matters and problems. In my mind, we have flu that happenned since 1957 that i called in high-fever now and if not cured, it will be cancerous and by then no one would fight to be the Government leader anymore. Please put all your acts together and deal with the serious problems soonest the better. Umno is not bigger than Malaysia! BN is not a Country! Malay does not own Malaysia! Malaysia does not belong to one Race; Malaysia doe not belong to one political Party! Malaysia belongs to all Malaysians named in the Malaysian Constititon! Malaysia is a country with 26 million voters who want to leave in a harmonious, peaceful and productive environment! So please get off this humiliating Malay, Malay, Malay, Malay issues as i do not see who is really making the country progressed then, now and the future. The Chinese can't make that happen! The Malay alone can't make that happen! The Idian can't make that happen too! A combined Chinese, Malay and Indian will overcome all sort of sickening, rotting and damaging problems! I hope the young Chinese, Malay, Indian out there will push this New Malaysia or New Malaysian Economic Policy into further debate analysis and solution. We all had witnessed how a powerful country like Iraq was destroyed! How Soviet Union was disintegrated by the forces of destruction through War, economy power, manipulation and god knows! What is Malaysia compared to Iraq and Soviet Union! How can we weather the challenge by the foreign power if everyday we are talking about BN, UMNO, Ketuanan Melayu and Keutamaan Melayu while other neighbor countries have progrssed so well and so far aead of Malaysia. I wish that i can be invited by Pak Lah or Najib to talk about all those problems facing by our fragile, politically unstable, and financially weaked situation. But read the one below left on my blog. It is poignant and we should do something about this form of injustice to the human mind: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ novice101 said... The Great Divide ! The frustration of a parent and the anguish suffers by a child may seems to be very common and an everyday occurrence. But the cause of this frustration and anguish is the factor that creates division and polarisation of the races in Malaysia. What is this cause that is so explosive and destructive? It is the deprivation of the world-recognised basic right of every child - his right to be given an education that befits her capabilities! A child , from small, was told to study hard so that she could contribute constructively to society, and she took the message to heart. She studied hard and when the SPM results were announced, she was overjoyed as she had scored the maximum 12 As. She looked forward to be accepted into the matriculation class. She was in for a rude shock, she was rejected! Her anguish would not have been so deep and her hurt would not have been so devastating if the selection had been done in a more even-handed manner. Her excellent results could not get her accepted but her friends who had only managed 3 to 5 As were given places. This is Malaysia's education as implemented by the 'little Napoleons'. This scene is being played out in many non-Malay families throughout Malaysia, year-in an year-out. The parents who had always believed in the government and the system, have always taught their children to be law-abiding. When such thing happened to their families and they were asked by the children why such thing should befall them, they had no plausible explanations. These families, left to their own devices, have no much of a choice but to seek their own means to provide for the completion of their children's education. If, some of these children manage to go oversea to complete their studies, it comes as no surprise if they decide not to come back once they finish their studies. Who could have blame them. In some of the families, the parents have to make great sacrifices so that their children can graduate from private institutions. Those who are not so fortunate financially may have to force their children to give up their dreams of obtaining a tertiary education. Any wonder why the races are so divided and polarised in our nation? To this, you add the insensitive words and actions of UMNO politicians, the inequality in job opportunities in the government sector, the inequality in business opportunities, the loud insistent battle cry of the Malay supremacy, the unwarranted questioning of the loyalty of the non-Malays, the not so subtle attempts to sideline the religious beliefs and practices of the other races, you create the 'Great Divide'! If Samy Vellu and other politicians attribute the election debacle to just the demolition of the temple, then it is a clear case of the political leaders being out of touch with the political realities! May more responsible and compassionate leaders be divinely-guided to come forward now to help close the 'Great Divide'. report abuse disagree 1 agree 50 ... written by backs, April 19, 2008 13:12:38 patriotism to ones country should not be confused with loyalty to ones government. governments change (or should have changed in the case of our country), but our country (godwilling!) remains. also, patriotism and unity should be above and beyond politics. no political party should stand for unity of a certain race or even unity of malaysians as a whole. it is a national interest, the responsibility of all and not the exclusivity of a few (political parties). report abuse disagree 0 agree 9 ... written by sataysticks, April 19, 2008 13:18:43 My daughter is a medical student at a local public university. she tells about the humiliating experiences of the Nons where the Biro guys come alound to "brainwash" the Nons into "feeling grateful" for all that they are "given" in this country. Yes, we can all do our own little part (which have been efffective based on the many testimonies shared on this blog) but can more be done? How do we counter each and every propaganda from BTN? As Dr have said we were "carpet bombed". How do we disseminate these messages? Will Pakatan Rakyat set up a dedicated group of sociologist to do the job or should these by handled by a NGO to maintain non partisan and apolitical objective. Will these sociologists be ISA'ed. In the whole batch of 3-4 days of course there're only a sprinkle of chinese and indians. The modus operandi there was quite simple. The so called facilitators will play the bad cop-good cop scenario as was seen on TV. They'll put on scenarios of what will happened if you get strayed from the traditional values and status quo. Then they'll remind you of the so called 'peace and prosperity' brought and maintain if you cooperate/submit the their values. I'm a Malay and I was offended on how these people trying to use Kelantan as example (it was the only state under opposition then). The whole class given a scenario of how Kelantanese are in the brink of famine and chaos for exercising their constitutional rights. We were told it was an unpatriotic choice and a selfish act. As Dr Azli mentioned, they shoved the idea of ketuanan Melayu as the most important part of Malaysia and it's the only thing which hold this country together, not justice and tolerance. If I as a Malay felt offended, I can't even imagine how those few non-Malay would feel at that time. I see there were 2 groups in the class. Ones who secretly despise the idea of MALAYSIA=GOVERNMENT=UMNO and another who was willing to swallow anything for fear of being transfered to a remote part and out of ignorance. It's really shocking to how many rolled over and lapped it up. Even for those who don't we too have to veil our different opinions (for those facilitators also act as Gestapo). This kind of fear tactic was and still crippling thousand of minds each year. It must be put to stop for it's a breeding ground for a disunite Malaysia. Remember PinkFloyd (don't want no thought control... - I'm old) Anyway all depends if you choose to see Malaysia's challenges thru the 'lens of race', 'lens-of-religion' or the 'lens-of-competition'. Rakyat naively believes that politicians (even from the same race) are driven by the primary motive of serving the needs of the rakyat. Politicians do only the very minimum for the rakyat - just sufficient to stay in elected position - rest of the time their agenda is the agenda-of-self. They will use and leverage any means or instrument (religion, race, law whatever) that they can grab to ensure that their self-interests is served first. Now with all the glorious Oil Wealth available, their real and hidden objective is the nation's wealth and control of it. Delivering benefits for the rakyat in pretty low down the priority list. He therefore does not have a purpose for coming to this world. He can’t really tell what his purpose was, since he has not come into this world on purpose. He would try to give an answer to show he is intelligent and to satisfy others who might expect an answer. A political party is formed by man, and they have at least a genuine purpose for forming that party, either to serve the people or to serve their own personal interests. When politicians choose to serve the people, they may do it without ever thinking of recompense. If they so, then they are using the political party as a vehicle to serve the people, and out of gratitude, the people would make recompense to him. So, eventually it is serving personal interests that the politicians are doing it through serving the people in the first place. When politicians claim that they serve the political party for their race, religion and the country, that statement can only be true if the country comprises of people of only one race and one religion. The statement is contradictory when there is more than one race or one religion, since the politicians can serve only the subsets of the intersection of race and religion. In serving only the intersection subset, the politicians could only serve part of the nation covered by the intersection of race/religion if their actions do not cause a loss to the interests of people of other races and religions. Otherwise, when the politicians serve only a portion at the expense of the others, there cannot be unity and solidarity among the people of the nation. No nation can stand or defend itself under external threat when there is no solidarity. Other than sadists, human beings have the sense of empathy and compassion to help the poor, needy and downtrodden. Thus it is genuine human kindness that assistance where possible would be provided to the needy persons irrespective of their race or religion. However, when poverty alleviation programmes of the government are directed to the needy beneficiaries based not on needs but on race or religion, that programmes are not out of compassion, but as an investment for some recompense. It is vote buying to serve the divide and rule objectives. The late Tun Dr. Ismail expressed surprise that MCA and MIC accepted readily the special privilege enshrined in article 153 of the Federal Constitution, which was subject to review after 15 years in 1972. He said that Malays would on their own willingly remove that Article when they no longer require it. The late Tun Razak made the opposition parties support constitutional amendment to freeze discussion on the review of article 153, as a condition for reconvening parliament in 1971. Now, even the Raja Muda of Kelantan claimed that Malay privilege was a price paid by non-Malays for obtaining citizenship, and he conveniently forgot that that privilege was originally subject to review in 1972. He forgot also that people born in Penang and Malacca were subjects of the British, and they were entitled to be citizens of Malaya on independence. To be historically correct, would it be true that Penang and Malacca borns are entitled to the privilege as well. It appears that the day that the late Tun Ismail envisaged Malays voluntarily removing article 153 would never come. report abuse disagree 0 agree 1 ... written by Loh, April 20, 2008 16:41:06 (Continued) Have the Malays built up special bondage among themselves that they are willing to sacrifice themselves so that other Malays can have a better life? The fight that UMNO politicians have engaged in has always been to take it from non-Malays for the benefits of Malays. But there have not been concrete examples of sacrificing oneself for the good of other Malays except for one case claimed by the son-in-law of PM AAB that he sold his shares in ECM LIBRA to a Malay tycoon even though he could have gotten more selling to non-Malays. But we hear calls for PM AAB to resign now though they claimed to love PM AAB when they were in position of power just before the March 8 election. Greed and self interests are human nature to Malays too! Why then do UMNO leaders compete to be champions of Malays? The political structure of divide and rule allow the winners among the Malay champions to acquire the lion share of political power, and the contest has always been how best they can bully the other races, and seen to be doing it. We are fools if we do not know the root causes of the ills in the country. But where else can a party with 82 seats control a parliament of 222 seats, and having a third of its members as ministers? Where else is politics the most profitable profession in the world? People are free to choose the most profitable endeavors in their life. But in Malaysian politics, the politicians have invented the strategic methodology to remain in power by cultivating the mindset among its vote banks to be reliance on government assistance. This is reinforced with the entitlement mindset through Ketuanan Melayu grounded on Article 153, and the achievement attributed with collective sense of jealousy which brought the advent of NEP. Had this country been ruled by personality which practiced Malaysian Malaysia since 1972, we should now be on par with Japan as a developed nation. We might end up like Philippines exporting graduates as maids to developed country, and live on remittances when we begin to be net importer of oil. I really wonder how many Malays would subscribe to your ideas here. But of course- there are many out there, who'd rather live in denial of what you've mentioned, so as to be able to live in the bliss of ignorance. Even before the day is over, there has been a response to this piece (Thumbs up for BTN) from one "whackthebugger", seemingly in support of BTN - a who is a self confessed "like a lazy big fat berok". He proudly goes on to say, "I am just a simple minded Melayu (like a lazy big fat berok) who stay up on the tree top and from that vantage point, I dreamily watch the many opportunities slip way. I see no reason to compare with the Spartans or Athenians for examples,......" I was quite tickled, to say the least ..... and the less said, the better. I've written quite a bit in numerous posts (on MT & in my blog - Cruzinthots) about the systematic enslavement of the Malay mind to the state/UMNO Baru/mediocrity, and as such, wouldn't want to add more (unless there is a debate) on it. It is sad that many Malays are still fooled/threatened into docility and obedience, by the lies that are fed to them by the propaganda & indoctrination machineries of state (including MSM), that instills xenophobia & hatred into the hearts of men. If that doesn't work, the other method used is the "corruption of ethics & values", using greed as the bait. All the administration does to retain power is practice deception that promotes the "seven deadly sins" as virtues of Ketuanan Melayu, as their God-ordained right. For this very reason, as long as UMNO Baru (the brain-child of the "the Great Satan" himself) rules the nation with the help of the little devils as allies, Malaysia is doomed to become another Zimbabwe. report abuse disagree 0 agree 4 ... written by renoir, April 22, 2008 22:20:34 Rozlan wrote: >They were told not think as Malaysian but as chinese.Neve cooperate with the malays in economics matters etc.]] Rozlan, who told them this? I HAVE heard, however, that - and this is stereotyping, if not racist - to have a real Malay partner (i.e. not Ali-Baba) in business isn't beneficial for any company, for they (Malays) are not likely to make good business decisions. But this, as far as I know, isn't a common attitude. Your example of Eric Chia isn't a good one, for he's a typical MCA specimen, the kind who would spat at his own community in order to gain credibility with his UMNO masters. About Chinese teachers telling students not to be slaves, that sounds more like a persecuted mentality than a racist disposition. Generally, of course, it's true that racism isn't the monopoly of any race. Malays are more noticeable simply because they have the power. And yet, thinking about power and power grabs - and this is hypothetical - much as I'd spoken about a non-racial manner of selecting leaders (the meritocratic approach) I do think that, for the time being, having a Malay as Prime Minister is imperative for the well-being of the country. This isn't only because Malays form the majority, but also because he or she is most likely to embrace this nation passionately. That doesn't mean non-Malays cannot have the same emotional attachment, it's just that, at this moment, such citizens might number less than that of the Malays. Wonder what others think. Thus, instead of a grateful electorate, the irony is that the resulting docile (but newly enlightened) electorate turned against their "benefactors". report abuse disagree 0 agree 0 ... written by kc respect, April 25, 2008 10:03:41 Dr.AZLY, may you be the wind to move this new blue Bahtera Merdeka, and may the spirit of the new crew be guided by your wisdom. GOD BLESS YOU !!! report abuse disagree 0 agree 1 ... written by DontPlayGod, May 05, 2008 17:53:07 It is actually up to the Malays whether UMNO is strong or sinks. If UMNO is strong, it is because the Malays has bought wholesale the BTN's propaganda all these decades. And I have seen many Malays who have been brainwashed by BTN. It's easy to recognize them. These brainwashed Malays will openly shout and scold the non-Malays, especially the Chinese at the slightest opportunity, or at the slightest irritant. I had a former classmate, who, after being brainwashed by the BTN refused to even look at a non-Malay nor at his non-Malay classmates. Needless to say, he would keep his distance from all non-Malays, especially the Chinese. And these are the brainwashed Malays who call the non-Malays pendatangs, and who screams for special privileges, NEP, ketuanan, etc. I can recall off-hand Amiruddin Badruddin as one of them. He makes it very obvious. But these are the people who will go far in UMNO. Ali Rustam is another pure BTN product. Of course there are too many to be mentioned here. Yes, BTN drills into the minds of the Malays to hate the non-Malays. BTN is a racist organization, and that is their job. Remember, AAB was once the head of BTN. Can he be the PM of all Malaysians? His actions and policies so far doesn't show it. report abuse disagree 1 agree 1 Write comment This content has been locked. You can no longer post any comment. You must be logged in to a comment.
