Politicians are not at fault here.
...Hi Aravind,

Politicians are not at fault here.

Majority of muslims community still believe in Islam is a way of life, and the governments of the day must take a stand on which religion or sect it supports or honor more than the others. Given political leaders have the existential need to garner power to execute whatever needs to be executed, it is most natural for political leaders take sides on religion matters if they are given such an opportunity. Muslim community gives their political leaders such an opportunity while the rest of world have learned to not give such an opportunity.

What is the point of locking a 3-year-old in a room with a bucket of candies, and ask her don't eat them. That is what muslim communities do when they choose to not adopt separation of religion institutions and states under the banner of "Islam is a way of life". In the case of Malaysia, we even have a clause saying "The religion of federation is Islam" in the constitution. That gives politicians that worth their salt to leverage religions for their existential need for power. In a sense, we cannot blame the politicians anything we can for the 3-year-old in the room, but the frame of the constitution and muslim community who choose to support the frame of the constitution to honor one religion (or sect) more than the others.

For USA, it takes Christians themselves to put down "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." in their constitution even if Christians were the overwhelming majority during the nation birth. Such a clause might have avoided many major religion-related conflicts.

Therefore, I don't think our politicians are at fault here. It is the people, especially muslim communities, that are at fault for giving such an environment for politicians to deal with religion matters. Remember, politicians who do not make use of the best of situation are failed politicians.
Shiou Lohhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13806223565474923715noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11167497.post-48280912306593881632014-05-31T23:41:08.990-04:002014-05-31T23:41:08.990-04:00Dr. Azli, it is when I read right thinking people ...Dr. Azli, it is when I read right thinking people writing like this, that it gives me hope that there are still good muslims who have respect for the human race. Thanks to people like you, life is worth living with the hope that politicians will one day come to their senses and stop trying to pit one race against the other. Live and let live. Thank you for your thoughts.aravindnoreply@blogger.com
